Today The Stranger Suggests…

posted by on June 22 at 10:59 AM

Georgia’s (GREEK RESTAURANT) This small, family-run place in Greenwood serves huge helpings of beautifully executed Mediterranean favorites like tangy lamb kebabs and octopus sautéed in garlic. They know how to do octopus. And on Friday and Saturday nights, they somehow make room for a lively band and belly dancers. (Georgia’s Greek Restaurant, 783-1228, 323 NW 85th St. Daily 8 am—10 pm.) They also make a mighty fine breakfast. Big ass Greek-themed omelettes...

I dunno,

I have had dinner here a few times and the portions have actually gotton quite small and more expensive. Costas has 'em beat for both price and serving size.

This place used to be good. Now its expensive, not as generous, the service is hit and miss, and they have a couple of mexican immigrants cooking - instead of the greek family members (like it used to be). Personally, I avoid it today. If I feel the need for a good greek taste, I hit "Mr. Gyros" down at 85th and Greenwood. VERY GENEROUS in portion, very affordable, and very good service (its a small joint).

Yeah, Mr. Gyros rules OK.

Isn't Georgia's the place that got the liquor board rule against dancing in a restaurant that serves alcohol, or whatever the hell idiot law it was, overturned? Something about dancing, I remember that. They got busted for the Greek dancing, which is so retarded it's hard not to explode.

Hip-hop with gunplay? OK. A little Greek dancing during dinner? A major crime.

Try the greek restaurant at the corner on N 34th St and Fremont Ave N next to the bridge - they are very good too.

hooray for Georgia's! Why they aren't packed for breakfast every weekend I'll never know. The potatoes alone...

They aren't packed for breakfast anymore because they got lazy and the quality of their food and service diminished quite a bit.

I wish it wasn't so. It used to be a great place. I hope they get back on the ball.
