Lady Bird is a great woman from another era, and I admire and respect her, but I actually like highway billboards, the cheesier and more garish the better. Now we're stuck with the personality-free Highway Department versions, with their little corporate boxes. I'll take "Two Headed Gator! Next Exit!" over "Food: Burger King, Shari's" any old day.

But I hope she gets better and lives another twenty years. She is one tough old broad.

A great friend of mine from high school used to say:

She was way too attractive to her husband. What the hell was she thinking? Godspeed indeed. She has had a full life though.

Lady Bird made not only Texas, but Washington DC (where I grew up), beautiful. Bulbs she had planted are still blooming there, 30+ years later, every spring.

That's awesome. Planting things that last longer than you is beautiful. Aw, dammit, I'm a hippie now. I wish there was some kind of a program where cows like Laura Bush could go and learn how to be real women.
