Not that we've got much in the way of alternatives, but here's a cool site in DC (where I'm visiting my parents right now) that gives you maps and times and details so you can live life without owning a car. The site sets you up to to get around on alternatives like rail (Metro), buses, bicycles, carpools, vanpools, flexcars, zipcars, and taxis. Footnote: I was texting with a friend back in Seattle last night—updating each other on our nights out on the town—and voila: I, tipsy on some drinks, just hopped the Metro at 1am (last train came...

Even better would be something similar to the DC Circulator on that website that would encompass a couple or routes downtown. That would be better that the horseshit you have downtown where the buses are free but you have no clue where they turn or stop off of 3rd.

While the Circle line is slow in London, it serves a purpose... everyone knows where it runs and it runs constantly. Its that sort of mindless, runs often type of service that's gotta happen to transform services. I only wish we had something similar to the DC metro.

@3 - I've seen that before. Most of the info is just copied verbatim from the Metro site, too. The SMS service is especially useful, but their website is in dire need of updating. I'm thinking Google Maps mashup here.

@4 - I'd really appreciate your help. Let's talk (davigoli@hotmail.com, spam bukkit).

@6 - you're much better off with Metro Trip Planner than Google Transit, at least last time I checked. You get some weird-ass trips through that thing, at least in Seattle.

That MyBus site seemed a little odd. I checked the 49 on it, and it listed it as having a northbound stop at Broadway & Madison... I take that bus every day, and it DEFINITELY doesn't stop at Madison; it doesn't even get onto Broadway until Pine, so that makes me a little nervous. I think I'll stick with http://transit.metrokc.gov for now.
