Mystery solved with this abbreviated description and a pronunciation clue:

CTHULHU: Certainly the bridge between the Other Gods and the Earth Gods is CTHULHU (sometimes called the "Great Priest Cthulhu.") It is said the proper pronunciation is "Koo-Too-Loo." Of all the gods of Lovecraft's mythology, Cthulhu is the most dangerous to mankind. Whether a god, demi-god, or alien life-form, he came to earth aeons before mankind. His world or civilization rose from the South Pacific ocean only to submerge again about the time man appeared on earth.
