You know, we have very very few shootings in Seattle given our size. A lot of the cops I know attribute that to our liberal gun laws. It turns out most criminals are wary because anyone could be carrying a gun at any time.

I hate to see this kind of crap happen. I hope they catch these guys and do what's right.

@1 - I disagree. I used to live in Arizona, where it's easy to get a permit for a concealed weapon, and anyone can keep a loaded weapon on the passenger seat of their car. People there get shot all the time! Arizona has more than double the murder rate as Washington (7.2 compared to 3.1 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the FBI).

I attribute the comparable lack of violent crime in Seattle (and Northwest in general) to access to better weed.

Those AZ boys are all full of throat-scorching Mexi schwag, and boy are they pissed.

Come to think of it, day after day of 100+ degrees might have something to do with it too.

low crime is due to the fact that everyone is too emo from all the rain; locking themselves indoors writing horrible music for their myspace band pages.

Thanks for these vital updates Jonah. I worked nightshift at the Blood Center on 1st hill for two years, and on many mornings I'd look in the newspapers for the reporting of the recent crimes. Many nights we'd have 1, 2, sometimes 3 shootings to provide blood for, STAT. I guess it's common for a big city to have this sort of thing, and not feel the need to... you get my point, I was naive.

Hey Fnarf (Steve), I'm outta here, maybe I'll see you at the next Tullycraft show. If I don't find work in Philly, I might try Athens. Finally I got my sorta best unprocessed voice on the vox page.

cos just about every day, someone's getting shot in the city of seattle.

never had to deal with that when i lived in germany or london.

and what's the point of having armed citizenry if they're not going to ever really defend themselves against the gov't.

KIRO-TV called this a "downtown" shooting, probably in an attempt to put more scare into folks since there really was a downtown shooting earlier in the week. I hate TV news.

I live close to this area and it seems that there are more folks hanging out on the corners. I wonder if it's related to Dino's closing and crack heads got no other place to go?

2. Ever seen Bowling for Columbine, Steve? In Canada you can walk up and buy a gun cold turkey. Why aren't there so many shootings up there?

Your 'we have MOAR GUNS so there's more shootings' theory does not wash.

I wonder if these seemingly daily shooting have anything to do with the recent news about increased gang activities in Seattle.

And if the increased gentrification and pricing of Seattle real estate forcing poorer folks out of town in any indication, assuming the above item has merit, it's likely this increased gang activity is the product of outsiders from certain, run-down suburbs.
