Denial-of-service is a poorly named phenomenon wherein someone pings the shit out of your site or otherwise ties up all available bandwidth so that no one else can get through - and thus, is denied service. It's an act of meanness and is usually done by 1) someone young with lots of time on his/her hands and 2)someone trying to prove his/her tech savvy.

I'm not at all familiar with Shakesville. But even if it's just another in a long list of "feminist" blogs consisting primarily of paranoid hallucinations of sexist persecution, this is a totally lame, non-hallucinatory sexist attack.

Most DOS attacks are trivial to defend against, and the serious hackers that launch more sophisticated attacks are too busy trying to extort money from porn sites to bother with a silly blog. If she can find a reasonably competent hosting provider, she should be back shortly.

Thanks for explaining. She's on my list of regulars and I've meant to ask what happened some-where (like Pam's site) but kept getting sidetracked. Shakes sis is still on my list'o'favs.
