Young Americans don't have health care because they'd rather spend the cost of the premiums on rent, food, and booze, and can see that as a viable trade off, since they're unlikely to become seriously ill. Most of the time, they're going to end up in the emergency room because of accidents, and knowing that they're immortal, don't worry about it.

it is certainly seems true that young people in general would rather spend their money on things that are a bit more entertaining than health care.

Insurance for basically healthy people with good habits would be affordable if we didn't have to pay for all of the obese, the smokers, the sedentary, eaters of processed food, etc. Imagine how expensive car insurance would be if we spread the cost of bad driving habits over the entire driver base.

I have health insurance, which I use STUDENT LOANS to pay for....unreal. The day I got booted of my mother's insurance was a sad one.

Kinaidos, you have it exactly backwards. Spreading risk over large populations is precisely the POINT of insurance. And all those healthy young people (many of whom are not as healthy as they think they are) are going to be old and decrepit someday. But I guess in your world if you eat processed food you deserve to die unattended to.

What use is bending over backwards and paying for health care when in the end they drop you or refuse to pay for you when you get badly injured or come down with a serious illness! They take your money with a smile and when you call for help they throw you out on the street! Health care is an illusion, a false sense of saftey made possible to the american public by billionarie healthcare CEO'S who see you as nothing more then an end of the year sucker who just bought them an additional 72" plasma screen to go in their freaking kitchen! Socialized medicine is a proven, established working system around the world! Travel and you'll realize the USA isn't all its hyped up to be!
