It's time for a new Mayor too.

Agreed Josh. The council needs to take a stand. But the only one in the council taking leadership is Nick Licata. And the chief and mayor have gone after him. The rest of'em (the council) lack a back bone. But we all know how much you dislike lefties because according to you theyre not effective.

Also, props to the Stranger and the Seattle Times for this tag team effort of keeping all the public informed.

SPD drug plants and bar room beat-downs are the result of the arrival of whiny-ass $500,000 condo owners who think they have their own private police force.

I wish I had a $500,000 condo. Maybe then I'd give a shit about my life.

Filing down the claws of the Police Guild will be the only start worth an effort... based on the discipline records, it would appear against logic that there are no bad apples on the force... Saints the po-po must be; a saintly police force one and all!!

Josh is right - replacing the chief won't help unless officers know there will be consequences for violating someone's civil rights.

It should be acknowledged when the SPD does good things as well. The other night, a (drunk?) black man down the street from me spent the evening on his porch issuing a very loud, incoherent, angry diatribe. Around midnight, someone finally called the cops, whom he greeted with an even louder barage of racists insults and obscenities. He actually ran at their car and started shouting direcly into the open window.

How did the police react? They asked him to turn the volume down several times, and when the man ignored them, they called in a black officer, who calmly convinced the guy to shut up. I thought they handled it well.

@1 I hear that. Let's get someone who doesn't have a little hard on for Paul Allen and actually WILL do something to try and fix the homelessness crisis as opposed to saying "we'll end it in ten years!" and continue to cut funding.

Josh,

It seems like whenever there's a problem with the police, the answer is to fire the chief. This never seems to work. We replaced Stamper with Kerlikowske because we were pissed off with how he handled WTO. And so it goes...

I understand accountability, but how will firing the Chief keep cops from beating people up unnecessarily?

The best thing is when Josh uses contemporary pop culture slangisms.
