Open Season!

posted by on June 26 at 17:27 PM

Apparently we can go on television now and wish for the assassination of politicians we don’t like…

…or maybe it’s only okay for Ann Coulter to do it. Says John at Americablog:

If you or I said this, we’d be arrested.

Question: is Ann Coulter a double agent? Because she's damaging the Republicans. If I was John Edwards, I'd try to get her disgusting bullshit on the news every single night. Every time she opens her mouth the R approval ratings go down by half a percent. Shine a light on it.

Posted by Fnarf | June 26, 2007 5:36 PM

I think she's a plant for Osama bin Laden.

Well, so is Dick Cheney.

Posted by Will in Seattle | June 26, 2007 5:40 PM

i haven't even seen the video yet, but i want all of you to know how happy it makes me to see ann coulter videos on slog. shit like this makes my day.

now i'm going to watch it...

that was short, but..

Posted by josef | June 26, 2007 5:41 PM

When are we going to see some prominent Republicans publicly rebuke this obnoxious person?

Posted by Tiffany | June 26, 2007 5:49 PM

Is Ann Coulter a tranny? She looks sooo manly!

Posted by FOXxy | June 26, 2007 5:52 PM

I once had a dream where I killed Ann was sweet.

Posted by Dianna | June 26, 2007 5:55 PM

Simmer down boys and girls, this snippet is drips of false alarm. That doesn't make her words a nice thing to say, but this is out of context and a bit cheap. C'mon, read the moron's columns, there's much more to get angry about than this, esp. if you view the interview in its entirety.

click it.

Posted by she's still an ass, though | June 26, 2007 5:57 PM

did you see the video of elizabeth edwards smacking ann coulter around on hardball? i just found it on youtube and it also made me happy.

i think that's it. god i hate ann coulter.

Posted by josef | June 26, 2007 5:57 PM

Why does Matthews ALWAYS give mAnn Coulter a platform?

What has she done to further the political debate in this country?

Posted by I'm a Nuclear Bomb | June 26, 2007 6:10 PM

Everything has it's time...

The pendulum has swung far to the right. One can only hope that means it's beginning it's swing back to the middle (and eventually the left).

I look forward to the day (hopefully in the near future) when this kind of "political discourse" is looked back upon with revulsion and embarassment by those in the media who gave it a stage.

Posted by BD | June 26, 2007 6:15 PM

That woman... her fiery ignorance and passionate hatred render her almost kind of... hot.

Posted by Carollani | June 26, 2007 6:23 PM

But Ann Coulter doesn't get arrested because everyone knows they'd never get a conviction, the insanity defense would be too convincing.

Posted by east coaster | June 26, 2007 6:39 PM

The thing is - she's not really a stand alone case. This isn't atypically Republican. Until this past September, I'd been down in San Diego for a couple of years working on a degree and attending school with San Diego and Orange County residents. Both counties are very, very, very Republican (even though there are a whole lotta poor people in San Diego now). I used to hear crap like what Coulter said ooze from their mouths all the time. I was insulted by their ignorance, of course, but beyond insulted, I was more startled than anything - startled at the sheer nastiness of their remarks.

One of my happiest memories is seeing her run from that pie in the face she almost got at a speaking engagement. She sure was cowardly when events involved more than just her mouth. And that's pretty Republican as well.

But before you say, "Cowardly? What about the Democrats?" I will respond: I agree. But they aren't nearly as mean.

Posted by Bauhaus | June 26, 2007 6:40 PM

What is the penalty for thoughtcrime in the worlds greatest democracy nowadays?

Posted by Alex | June 26, 2007 7:16 PM

Let me get this right. You think wishing someone you disagree with politically - someone who isn't, say, Hitler or Pol Pot - had been murdered is a legitimate, non-fictional thought/contribution in a democracy?

Posted by Bauhaus | June 26, 2007 7:26 PM

Lame. The clip is way out of context. What exactly is your problem with that strange little transexual anyway?

Seriously guys, I love your biting left wing commentary, but don't try to pull that shit.

It doesn't look good when you manipulate sound bites to advance your agenda.

You're already preaching to the choir.

Posted by rotten666 | June 26, 2007 7:35 PM

Didn't someone once suggest a Green Party candidate be dragged behind a truck until his body fell apart? I wonder if they ever arrested that asshole.

Posted by Putnam | June 26, 2007 7:38 PM

ann coulter is a worthless, smug c*nt who has consistently, over the course of the past 5 or 6 years, whored out her pathetic little soul for book sales. she incites hatred in the hearts of those with easily manipulated minds in middle america. this is a main part of the reason we have so many problems in this country today. ann coulter deserves no attention, no air time, and no more book deals. she is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Posted by jameyb | June 26, 2007 7:46 PM

No you wouldn't Dan. Haven't you ever visited Democratic Underground? Or listened to Mike Malloy?

Posted by oh please you silly fairy | June 26, 2007 7:47 PM

Am I the only one who finds this labeling of her as a "tranny" to be obnoxious? I see this constantly used as pejorative to describe Ann Coulter, and to me it shows transphobic attitudes of the posters.

Posted by Someone | June 26, 2007 7:48 PM

She's a real bundt cake.

Posted by catalina vel-duray | June 26, 2007 7:54 PM

I'd have a slice.

Posted by Carollani | June 26, 2007 7:55 PM

The quote isn't out of context at all. It's a stand along quote. This shit she says around it would not in any way change the nature of what she said. Some people obviously don't understand what context means.

Posted by Jay | June 26, 2007 8:16 PM

Jay @ 23

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I can't think of anything else to say except that rotten666 is a fool.

Posted by truthseeker | June 26, 2007 8:29 PM

"Most economists agree that the Depression would have been over by around 1936 without government intervention..."

Possibly, but how many people would have died from hunger in the interim? Doesn't really matter, does it, when you are looking at it from the dining room window at the Ritz? Pass the cav-i-ah, darlink.

Posted by Bauhaus | June 26, 2007 8:32 PM

Yes, Putnam. But that asshole immediately apologized--before anyone called him out on it.

Posted by terry miller | June 26, 2007 8:42 PM

Bong hits for Ann Coulter!!

Posted by kinaidos | June 26, 2007 8:59 PM

Please please please have a camera and microphone turned on this (wo)man 24 hours a day, she's the best thing to happen to the Democrats since the New Deal.

Posted by Andy Niable | June 26, 2007 9:26 PM

The only reason the depression would have been over by '36 is because we'd all have been part of some fascist military regime, or communists.

People like peroxide prissy really have no idea how truly desperate it was in this country during the depression. They think it was a few weeks of eating meatloaf and listening to "Brother, can you spare a dime" on an old timey radio.

but keep in mind she's the same rumpled cocktail dress that thinks McCarthy was such a swell guy, and probably masturbates regularly to the rape scene in "The Fountainhead"

Posted by catalina vel-duray | June 26, 2007 9:33 PM

God damn, I'm all for First Amendment rights, but really, who gave Coulter and people like her the right to be such bitches?

Posted by Christina | June 26, 2007 10:05 PM
Posted by John | June 26, 2007 10:11 PM

If I'm the first to say this, then shame on all of your short memories...Bill Mayer said the EXACT same thing about Cheney...dying by the hands of Islamic Terrorists in Afghanistan. Why is it you people forget when one of your own says the same thing...too much hooka? Ann only made a joke at the expense of Bill M. and your spin masters got you all riled up before your brains ever engaged! Too funny.

Posted by jim | June 27, 2007 5:51 AM

Source, please - and newsmax, newsbusters or fox don't count.

Posted by Retardlican fact checker | June 27, 2007 6:44 AM

Did someone in here say something about a hooka?

Posted by Bong Hits 4 Me | June 27, 2007 7:06 AM

It's OK for Republicans to publicly wish for the death of Democrats. And Democrats can do the same to Republicans.

However, if an Muslim person in America made those sorts of comments about anyone, he'd be hauled off real fast.

The double standard is the problem.

Of course, the general lowering of the standards of discourse is also part of the problem. The media is paying way too much attention to trolls. As we've said on the Internet for many years "Do not feed the energy beast." Because that's all that Coulter is, a troll.

Posted by Laurie D. T. Mann | June 27, 2007 7:34 AM

What can possibly be said about dear sweet Ann Coulter that has not already been said. Isn't her 15 minutes of fame up yet? Without doubt one of the most unapologetically hateful, bile spewing women on the planet. Why anyone gives her air time or any credibility whatsoever completely baffles me.

Posted by SDA in SEA | June 27, 2007 7:40 AM

If she was here on a tourist or student visa, I would hope that she would be deported.

Posted by Tiffany | June 27, 2007 8:05 AM

AGREED! Calling her "manly" or "a tranny" is really insulting to a manly tranny like myself. Implying that a woman who was once a man (and got her dick chopped off, in the mind of those who insult trannies) is now a big bitch because she opted for surgery to solve her gender dysphoria is really transphobic.

Posted by Dee in SF | June 27, 2007 8:07 AM

Is it too late for Ann Coulter's parents to have an abortion?

Posted by Jake | June 27, 2007 8:20 AM

Hey all, the sexist horseshit that some folks can't seem to help spewing every time Coulter comes up is just laaame. There's plenty of ways and reasons to diss her without calling her a slut or a tranny or whatever. It's lame when people she's aligned with politically do it to those on the left, and it's just as lame when the left does it to her. Stop it.

Posted by cdc | June 27, 2007 8:43 AM

Relax you people, if you taken English 101 or some form of street smarts you know she was just being coy, flipped a facetious diatribe about how she was misinterpited, and truned it around into your the hypocrtie, i'm not the hipocrite argument that you all do the same to eachother here on the slog.
Lighten up people. Coulter did have a very valid statement, not to be taken out of context during some chance to air her rant to the masses, wether they like it pr not.
We have been taking to task a lot of peoples veiwpoints and public speakery exspecially with the onslaught of the internet and airwaves broadcasting these knowitalls. But come on have we really be tomfooleried that we don't know a funny when we seen one on t.v. If I met Ann Coulter on the street I would still say hi, and just laugh.

Posted by funkbutt | June 27, 2007 8:47 AM

you guys if your thinking that kooky, then its just as kooky to think she really wants that to happen.
You want to really look into a pure evil witch then check out that lady married to that Fred Phelps guy and the vile that spews from her mouth.
Thats the real kook.
Coulters no different in retrospek than you and I.
peace d resistance'

Posted by summertime | June 27, 2007 8:54 AM

hmmm. i don't like this ann much either. i think by "context" that earlier poster was hinting that ann is making a joke regarding what people said about dick cheney... that seems fairly clear.

Posted by infrequent | June 27, 2007 9:03 AM

How come it took 32 posts before some recognized this as a weak dig at Bill Mahar? Did nobody eat their Wheaties this morning.

The fact that I (and several others, evidently) find AC sexually attractive BECAUSE I hate her so much and DESPITE her being so ugly and nasty says something really dark about the male mind.

Posted by Big Sven | June 27, 2007 9:50 AM

@1 -- even ann admits this! when she was criticized by edwards wife for low politics, she basically affirmed that donations (and support) for edwards has increased because of her.

Posted by infrequent | June 27, 2007 10:04 AM

I'm not a fan of the c word, but to quote a friend: "Ann Coulter is a chud-filled cunt."

Posted by jhell | June 27, 2007 10:20 AM

Ann is brilliant.

Posted by Mr. Poe | June 27, 2007 11:21 AM

If someone on Fox said this, if someone on Air America said that, if a Muslim said something else.... If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.
Media personalities on all sides of the political spectrum say controversial things to get attention. Judging by the comments here, it worked for Coulter.
