Open Season!

posted by on June 26 at 17:27 PM

Apparently we can go on television now and wish for the assassination of politicians we don’t like…

…or maybe it’s only okay for Ann Coulter to do it. Says John at Americablog:

If you or I said this, we’d be arrested.

Question: is Ann Coulter a double agent? Because she's damaging the Republicans. If I was John Edwards, I'd try to get her disgusting bullshit on the news every single night. Every time she opens her mouth the R approval ratings go down by half a percent. Shine a light on it.

Well, so is Dick Cheney.

Simmer down boys and girls, this snippet is drips of false alarm. That doesn't make her words a nice thing to say, but this is out of context and a bit cheap. C'mon, read the moron's columns, there's much more to get angry about than this, esp. if you view the interview in its entirety.

Why does Matthews ALWAYS give mAnn Coulter a platform?

What has she done to further the political debate in this country?

Everything has it's time...

The pendulum has swung far to the right. One can only hope that means it's beginning it's swing back to the middle (and eventually the left).

I look forward to the day (hopefully in the near future) when this kind of "political discourse" is looked back upon with revulsion and embarassment by those in the media who gave it a stage.

But Ann Coulter doesn't get arrested because everyone knows they'd never get a conviction, the insanity defense would be too convincing.

The thing is - she's not really a stand alone case. This isn't atypically Republican. Until this past September, I'd been down in San Diego for a couple of years working on a degree and attending school with San Diego and Orange County residents. Both counties are very, very, very Republican (even though there are a whole lotta poor people in San Diego now). I used to hear crap like what Coulter said ooze from their mouths all the time. I was insulted by their ignorance, of course, but beyond insulted, I was more startled than anything - startled at the sheer nastiness of their remarks.

One of my happiest memories is seeing her run from that pie in the face she almost got at a speaking engagement. She sure was cowardly when events involved more than just her mouth. And that's pretty Republican as well.

But before you say, "Cowardly? What about the Democrats?" I will respond: I agree. But they aren't nearly as mean.

What is the penalty for thoughtcrime in the worlds greatest democracy nowadays?

Let me get this right. You think wishing someone you disagree with politically - someone who isn't, say, Hitler or Pol Pot - had been murdered is a legitimate, non-fictional thought/contribution in a democracy?

Lame. The clip is way out of context. What exactly is your problem with that strange little transexual anyway?

Seriously guys, I love your biting left wing commentary, but don't try to pull that shit.

It doesn't look good when you manipulate sound bites to advance your agenda.

You're already preaching to the choir.

ann coulter is a worthless, smug c*nt who has consistently, over the course of the past 5 or 6 years, whored out her pathetic little soul for book sales. she incites hatred in the hearts of those with easily manipulated minds in middle america. this is a main part of the reason we have so many problems in this country today. ann coulter deserves no attention, no air time, and no more book deals. she is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Am I the only one who finds this labeling of her as a "tranny" to be obnoxious? I see this constantly used as pejorative to describe Ann Coulter, and to me it shows transphobic attitudes of the posters.

The quote isn't out of context at all. It's a stand along quote. This shit she says around it would not in any way change the nature of what she said. Some people obviously don't understand what context means.

"Most economists agree that the Depression would have been over by around 1936 without government intervention..."

Possibly, but how many people would have died from hunger in the interim? Doesn't really matter, does it, when you are looking at it from the dining room window at the Ritz? Pass the cav-i-ah, darlink.

The only reason the depression would have been over by '36 is because we'd all have been part of some fascist military regime, or communists.

People like peroxide prissy really have no idea how truly desperate it was in this country during the depression. They think it was a few weeks of eating meatloaf and listening to "Brother, can you spare a dime" on an old timey radio.

but keep in mind she's the same rumpled cocktail dress that thinks McCarthy was such a swell guy, and probably masturbates regularly to the rape scene in "The Fountainhead"

If I'm the first to say this, then shame on all of your short memories...Bill Mayer said the EXACT same thing about Cheney...dying by the hands of Islamic Terrorists in Afghanistan. Why is it you people forget when one of your own says the same thing...too much hooka? Ann only made a joke at the expense of Bill M. and your spin masters got you all riled up before your brains ever engaged! Too funny.

It's OK for Republicans to publicly wish for the death of Democrats. And Democrats can do the same to Republicans.

However, if an Muslim person in America made those sorts of comments about anyone, he'd be hauled off real fast.

The double standard is the problem.

Of course, the general lowering of the standards of discourse is also part of the problem. The media is paying way too much attention to trolls. As we've said on the Internet for many years "Do not feed the energy beast." Because that's all that Coulter is, a troll.

What can possibly be said about dear sweet Ann Coulter that has not already been said. Isn't her 15 minutes of fame up yet? Without doubt one of the most unapologetically hateful, bile spewing women on the planet. Why anyone gives her air time or any credibility whatsoever completely baffles me.

@20.

AGREED! Calling her "manly" or "a tranny" is really insulting to a manly tranny like myself. Implying that a woman who was once a man (and got her dick chopped off, in the mind of those who insult trannies) is now a big bitch because she opted for surgery to solve her gender dysphoria is really transphobic.

Hey all, the sexist horseshit that some folks can't seem to help spewing every time Coulter comes up is just laaame. There's plenty of ways and reasons to diss her without calling her a slut or a tranny or whatever. It's lame when people she's aligned with politically do it to those on the left, and it's just as lame when the left does it to her. Stop it.

Relax you people, if you taken English 101 or some form of street smarts you know she was just being coy, flipped a facetious diatribe about how she was misinterpited, and truned it around into your the hypocrtie, i'm not the hipocrite argument that you all do the same to eachother here on the slog.
Lighten up people. Coulter did have a very valid statement, not to be taken out of context during some chance to air her rant to the masses, wether they like it pr not.
We have been taking to task a lot of peoples veiwpoints and public speakery exspecially with the onslaught of the internet and airwaves broadcasting these knowitalls. But come on have we really be tomfooleried that we don't know a funny when we seen one on t.v. If I met Ann Coulter on the street I would still say hi, and just laugh.

How come it took 32 posts before some recognized this as a weak dig at Bill Mahar? Did nobody eat their Wheaties this morning.

The fact that I (and several others, evidently) find AC sexually attractive BECAUSE I hate her so much and DESPITE her being so ugly and nasty says something really dark about the male mind.

Media personalities on all sides of the political spectrum say controversial things to get attention. Judging by the comments here, it worked for Coulter.
