these posts are a little more on the quizzical side. what idea are they supposed to support?

i think they stem from the idea that christians think they are more moral than someone who is not a christian. unfortunately, when faced with this sort of information, christian's honestly believe two things:

1) all people are sinners, even christians. these are just examples of christians sinning.

and/or

2) these were not "true" christians (by their definition or demonination or whatever).

you see, when a christian is pressed on what it means to be good, it is defined as following jesus. so, yes, they might think they are good compared to someone who doesn't follow jesus. but the rationale isn't based on actions (for protestants, at least).

i take it back. i was just trying to lend a helpful view based on knowledge from my past. but as i did some more remembering, i recalled how homosexuals were made fun of and called perverts by people i knew. how could i forget this? they didn't just think it was wrong, they thought it was sick... and that someone who would engage in such behavior is morally corrupt.

carry on.

I'm excited to see that googling "they will know we are christians" (with the quotes) brings up a series of these Slog posts in the number three position now. With a bullet!

I can't wait for your "Gay People Who Do Terrible Things" column, Dan, to go with this and the Last Days reports on bad parents.

Nietzsche said, "he who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby becomes a monster" adding some lame postscript about abyssal staring, etc. etc. Whatever. I'm loathe to take advice from baroquely mustachioed Germans too seriously, anyway.

However, if Dan's premise is that Christian God-botherers who think homosexuality is sinful are tedious, holier than thou, busybody bores then I think it might be time that he realized he's starting to have more in common with his erstwhile foes than he thinks.
