Well Munera should respect my cats religion. My cat says that in her religion all people should be equal, but people who believe in god should be shot.

Yep, she was like "meow, meow, meow, bang bang".

So please Munera, go shoot yourself. Cause that is like, respecting my cats religion.

It may be democraticly controled Dan but they need 75% of the vote to stop it. Your storys just a bit miss leading. It makes it seem like they are not doing every thing they can to turn the 8 votes they need. Every thing I've seen says otherwise.

Thinking ahead if it does pass wouldn't it be great if the vote failed..

We're waiting until we have full marriage rights, which I realize might mean never getting married. But I realize that's a luxury. We have understanding families who would never bar one of us from a hospital room, or try to overturn a will.

On some level, I can't believe there's actually a "debate" about such a basic civil right, but I was raised when we still had some version of a separation between church and state, and a workable system of checks and balances.

"Any minority should submit themselves to the majority," Mansour continued.

So if everybody with a star on their arm could just get into the cattle car in an orderly fashion...

Fucking asshat.

well, i surely don't think it's such a bad thing being a second class citizen, as long as we have mexicans and blacks in third. i wish there was a FORTH class, but that's me. i'm a snob and a climber. ask anyone.

i believe i just read that the Mass. legislature just defeated the measure by a 3-1 ratio, ensuring it will never get to the voters.

@8 and @9 -- So now, someone should turn around to Munera and say "Any minority should submit themselves to the majority. Minority."

I guess back in slavery south Munera would have supported blacks taking over, since they out-manned the whites 3-1.
And here I thought our founding fathers set up the system of representational government so the minority wouldn't be subject to the whims of the majority.
There really should be an ongoing history class for every citizen so people can actually understand this great county of ours.

Tiffany @ 6,

British Columbia legalized same sex marriage in 2003 along with several other provinces, and Canada legalized it nationwide in 2005. Even the Conservative Party said that they'd never allow a public vote because having a majority vote on the rights of a minority that they hate is immoral.

Here in the US conversely, hatred and hostility towards the well-being of minorities is deeply ingrained in our society. We also have the largest population of sadistic religious fanatics outside the Middle East, who think that a supernatural being has given them the moral authority to condemn everyone who's not exactly like them. I'd call it a fundamental flaw in our culture.

"any minority should submit itself to the majority"? That has to be the most un-American sentiment I've ever seen. Think about what the original settlers here were after; they were escaping the tyranny of the majority, who would no longer let them impose their weirdo religious beliefs on the rest of the population. This country was FOUNDED by religious minorities.

I have a suggestion for anyone who thinks minorities and uppity women should just pipe down, homosexuals should stay in the closet, and religion should influence law. There's a country you'd probably like much better than this one - a country where uppity women or women who have sex or get abortions or use birth control can be put in prison, where minorities, including religious minorities, can be oppressed with impunity, where all law is based on the majority religion, and where homosexuals can be put to death. It's called Iran. Look into it, why don't you - I think you'd be much happier there.
