How Was It?: The Streets

posted by on June 8 at 10:54 AM

I went out last night to pound the pavement to bring you some riveting accounts from Seattle’s finest. I asked everyone in the video just one simple question, “How Was It?” The rest was up to them. Thanks to everyone on Capitol Hill last night who indulged me.

Yesterday Kelly O challenged me to post a Drunk of the Week, but I thought I could do better than that so I dusted off my little Canon SureShot and echo-y dollar store toy microphone, and went out in Capitol Hill to make myself a little video.

For the record, MOST of the people in the video are total strangers, but a couple of my friends are thrown in too. I won't tell you which is which so don't bother asking. Everything on the video was completely improvised—nothing was scripted (obviously).

It was interesting to see the faces of strangers as they tried to make sense of what was going on and then come up with what they felt was an appropriate response. Everyone was really great and I had a fun time making this.

Until I had to put it together. See, my laptop was stolen a few weeks ago in San Francisco so I didn't have all of the fancy applications I'm used to. I had to make do with my girlfriend's dated iBook and a fucked up PC. It sucked. NOTHING was working, everything kept crashing, neither of the computers wanted to do any of the simple tasks I asked of them... so I went to sleep. I woke up at 6:30 this morning to give it another shot, and this time I made some headway. I finally put it together, and then tried desperately against the clock to upload that bitch to YouTube which of course didn't want to cooperate.

It was a journey, but I'm better for having taken it. Enjoy.
