Damn. If only there was an ample supply of some sort of fire-extinguishing substance nearby...

OK That is really funny. :)

What's really funny is the guy that got washed into the hole on Vancouver Island last week lives next to the boat that burned.

The houseboat was about to be remodeled, I hear.

You combine earth, air and water in that way (enclosing a space with wood and floating in on water obviously), and when it burns you are surprised? Do you arrogant curs really believe you can keep the stag of nature at bay without limit? Fire will have it's place, and your wet and cold ways only lend its ultimate advent a greater ferocity. It is like a badger fed on carrots as you eat eggs: loosed he will tear the eggs from your probably withered ovaries. And that too would be an omen you deserve.

I didn't even know I had ovaries, much less know that stags are apparently the sworn enemies of houseboats.

I hope they had insurance. Some of the older houseboat livers don't. I knew a guy who had kind of a ramshackle houseboat down there that burned one day, who didn't, and when it was finished he had nothing in this world at all.

It would be an omen to have eggs torn out of your ovaries? Our friends at Merriam Webster say...

omen: an occurrence or phenomenon believed to portend a future event.

I think the whole egg ripping out thing would be an event in and of itself. But what do I know, I'm a guy.

empedocles, did you go to school w/ Chuck Mudede?

btw

Empedocles' philosophy is best known for being the origin of the cosmogenic theory of the four classical elements. Much of Empedocles' work still survives today, more so than in the case of any other Presocratic. Empedocles' death was well recorded by his contemporaries, and has been the subject of both legend and a number of literary treatments.

Now a fire with wind on a lake WITH AN EARTHQUAKE would be all 4.......

Bizarre! I was visiting Washington this past week from Los Angeles, and was to stay on this actual houseboat Sunday night! We got a call on Saturday and heard about what had happened. Thankfully nobody was and nobody injured. So strange, Almost stopped by Thursday.
I have photos of the view from inside the place.
