Gay Pride in Tel Aviv Has Low Turnout

posted by on June 8 at 13:51 PM

Sadly, only 10,000 gays, lesbians, and activists turned out for a disappointing gay-pride parade and beach bash today, hosted by Israel’s Tel Aviv.

If they can’t get at least half a million to show up, we need to start an alternate parade, maybe moving the location to the Gaza Strip.

If a country where even the prime minister’s daughter is an open lesbian can’t manage a decent turnout, then how can we in Seattle ever hope to succeed? And don’t get me started about the debacle last year in Jerusalem… and the stabbing in 2005…

[apologies to Dan Savage]

HEY, that's the guy I worked with in Ballard! I won't disclose his occupation, but it was pretty darn blue collar! Overalls, a need for Lava soap at the end of the day. Horray for Roy Gee(i don't know) Biv!

Tel Aviv's gay life sucks. All the good parties are in J'lem.

@5
I have no idea. Since my gaydar was always faulty anyway, I turned it off years ago. Don't think we ever spoke, worked in two separate parts of the factory.

Wanna go ahead and properly credit that creative-commons licensed photo and link back to it's flickr page please? :)
Thanky!

oh, wait, you mean the pic of Purple Mark?

Don't know where I got that ... he's a friend, we do brunch all the time.

Purple Mark is a nice guy, and I'm sure brunch is lovely. However, that has nothing to do with the use of the photo here. I don't care where you snagged it from, you have a responsibility to track down the copyright before posting it.

You do not have permission from the photographer to use this photo in this way. I know, because I am the photographer.

Luckily for you, it's not a full copyright, but licensed under a generous Creative Commons license. I take thousands of photos for FREE USE by anyone who wants to use them for any noncommercial purpose, as long as the photographer is credited and a link back to the source is provided. In addition to the rules of the license, I am very flexible and easy to work with when people ASK PERMISSON to use things for commercial purposes. In these cases however, I generally don't allow photos of people or the work of artists without the permission of those people or artists.

See this link for the full text of the license on this photo:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/deed.en-us

I know you're just a guest, so I asked nicely first. Do me the favor of playing by the rules, or I will ask SLOG to remove the photo.

I repeat: properly credit the photo, and this will suffice as the link back to the source: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lifeasart/169499957/ which ALSO links to the CC license, clear as day. Please give other photographers the same courtesy in the future - because while this one instance isn't really that big a deal, in the information age intellectual property and data exchange is very important.

yeah, whatever.

you still owe him a full-color print. since he doesn't do computers, it's the least you could do, I.P.free.

Hey you were just asked nicely to properly attribute. How about asking your advertisers if they are OK about being associated with copyright theft?

Oy, Will in Seattle -- It seems like all the photographer asked of you was to credit the pic. Not too hard, I'd think. Instead of claiming I.P.free why didn't you get off your lazy-ass high horse and take your own damned photo? Or if you didn't feel like it, then at least respect the wishes of the person who's photo you are borrowing and show some common courtesy.

Yeah, don't admit a mistake, just erase the offence and pretend it didn't happen. Smooth.
