I guess the designation of free speech is limited to presidential scholars... still it's nice to see they did something worthwhile with their sanctioned photo op moment. good for them (;-D)

Man, it takes real guts for an 18 year old to tell the President to stop kidnapping and torturing people. His PR flak does a great job of insulting our intelligence:

"The president enjoyed a visit with the students, accepted the letter and upon reading it let the student know that the United States does not torture and that we value human rights," deputy press secretary Dana Perino said.

But what she meant was:

�The students have been declared enemy combatants, and they will be deported to Guantanamo Bay for enhanced interrogation. Terrorist confessions to follow,� she added.

Dana Perino went on to say, "Further, the White House would like the students to know there really is a Santa Claus, an Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy."

I don't get the point of his whole refrain of "we don't torture or condone torture," when they are very clearly on the record as defending their right to use torture techniques. He must figure he's talking to idiots.

I wish they'd consulted a few people beforehand. They could have stated that so called "enhanced interrogation techniques" employ methods specifically barred by the UN Convention on Torture, and asked him how he wasn't torturing.
