Points well taken, Dan, but I would be more impressed w/Ms. Burner if she spent a few years building her resume. Her lack of same was all that kept her from a win last time, and to turn right around and offer us...same candidate as last time only 2 years older... Well, sorry; I'm not convinced. This race is tailor-made for an east-side state legislator, one with some substance to offer.

They didn't change their mind based on her "support for the war" (again, you sound like ignorant morons even saying she supports the war), but based on her support on the ground in Washington state, built with anti-war lefties in her district, and her distinct policy differences with Dave Reichert. Thanks erin. She was annointed by the DC Dems - people that had been "working hard" for Democratic issues were told to step aside for Burner because of her fundraising ability and strong military family ties. This was the same Dem Congressional campaign group that didn't back the enviro in CA that beat a sitting Repubo. In a year where not so marginal districts went Dem, Burner couldn't knock out a weak one termer.

And Will what's this Nadar thing? The fact is that even though there is a Dem majority, the war is still being funded because of the "military moderates" Raul picked. Moderates like Burner.

There is nothing in the quote you gave that says she supported the war to begin with or supports prolonging the war. It only shows that she recognizes that the soldiers made sacrifices and did their best to carry out the missions they were given.

You may prefer a Dem candidate who says US soldiers are mindless war criminals, but that candidate doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell in the 8th. Time to get real Erin.

First of all, saying that the troops did what "we" asked them to more than implies that she supports the war, and not demanding that troops come home is supporting prolonging it. What else could it mean? Secondly, I'm not a Democrat or a Republican, and no, I wouldn't prefer any candidate who calls US soldiers mindless war criminals. I want candidates who have some guts and say that they will do whatever they can possibly do to stop the war in Iraq. That's definitely not Burner. It's not most people in the Republican or Democratic Party.

Mirror I think people backing Burner are closet supporters of Reichert and the status quo. Please give us the best DB had/has to offer. Besides running for the seat, what has she done? When did she call on the Bushie to bring our troops home now? What did she do in 2002/3 against the war? Didn't she do some anti-war stuff in the 90's and then quit when actual anti-war people showed up?

I worked (volunteered) for Inslee back when he won the seat from Rich White Republican. I've been pretty happy with his work and always admired his anti-machine gun vote even though it was used against him.

Hi. I actually live in the 8th (sometimes it seems like we East Siders are few and far between on the Slog...) I voted for DB last time. I'm quite confident I wasn't a "closet supporter... of Reichert."

I voted for her despite not knowing much about her, other than that she *wasn't* Reichert, and in the hope that the long prophecized reorienting of the East Side might be underway. She really didn't give me much of a feel either way. Her ads were cudly but vague. She seems nice but lightweight. I think of Amy Klobuchar in MN, who worked as Hennepin County (i.e. Minneapolis) Attorney for six years before running for US Senate. DB needs to prove herself somewhere other than Micro$oft OR give folks a compelling reason to get behind her campaing.

I don't give a fuck about how she feels about Iraq. With Bush in charge, the war will continue. With a Dem in the White House, the war will be ended. We were never going to get a veto-proof majority in either chamber; just getting control of both was a major miracle.
