Slog - Comments on Boom! Pop! Fizz!

This graphic, which is running on the front page of the New York Times website right now makes me wonder why there aren't "action" figures of our Supreme Court Justices. They look so plastic with their weird retro photoshopping, it just makes me think of the options. 1) Have Ginsburg make out with Scalia. 2) If the figures had movable joints, I bet Stevens would love to shamefully point his finger at Roberts. 3) I could knit little capes for Thomas and Souter, who just seem like the crimefighting types ("The Justice League," of course). Endless possibilities....

Of course the Slog would hone in on the joke potential while ignoring the content of the story itself, a story that also happens to be Seattle relevant. The court ordered desegregation of Brown v. has been rolled back, but hey man, wouldn't the supreme court judges make bad ass action figures?

What I found intriguing was that all the meat heads are conservative, their heads are so much bigger, not to be confused with smarter or more judicious; and all the pin heads are lucid constructionalist liberals, so much more prudent, smarter, and more dedicated to safeguarding our Bill of Rights and Constitution than any of those hacks on the unfortunate majority. A majority that any Nader voter is personally responsible for. Vote with your dollar not your vote until we are able to amend the Constitution to accomodate a multiparty system or proportional representation. Until then, please don't put us in the position of having corporate whores appointed to our supreme court. And if you voted for Nader, please suck Dan Savage's War supporting dick.

Uh, Jay--no it wasn't.
The court said today that you cannot decide who goes to what school solely on the basis of race. How is that rolling back Brown?

The court also didn't even have a majority to completely ban racial preferences of any kind, so the only controlling opinion is as I stated above.

While I often fantasize about Supreme Court orgies myself, I think it's worth noting (re: your suggestion that Ginsburg and Scalia dolls should make out, which I think you suggest because the two are polar opposites on the bench, although it could be pure hotness factor) that Ginsburg and Scalia are actually BFF's. Mr. and Mrs. Scalia ring in the New Year with Mr. and Mrs. Ginsburg and Ruth and Nino are opera-buddies. They even appeared as extras in an opera together! So, them making out doesn't see so absurd afterall.

11: I should have said the decision rolled things back to the early days of desegregation, when many school districts dragged their feet in integrating schools. I know Brown V. Board hasn't been rolled back. The way I said it was misleading and unclear. My mistake.

Actually, the publication Green Bag, a less than ultra serious legal journal, makes limited edition Supreme Court justice bobble heads. They started with Rehnquist, and are producing them otherwise in order of seniority on the Court -- although I'm not sure what they've done about Roberts. I think the Kennedy bobble head came out last year.

The bobble heads come out once a year, and are free for Green Bag subscribers. They are also available on eBay -- but they go for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I saw a Stevens bobble head that sold for upwards of $500.
