He was bright, funny, politically astute and very talented. He was also a complicated guy: a liberal who owned a handgun, a public figure who did everything in his power to suppress the publication of any pictures of him, and a champion of the wronged who was often embroiled in battles himself, both with the law and with his ex-employers. But despite any bad choices he might have made in his life, Mike was above all else a good person and a great fighter for GLBT rights. He'll be missed.

After killing Webb the murderer most likely hid the body, cleaned the blood evidence, left town for a while to establish an alibi.
