Best Thank-You Note Ever

posted by on June 20 at 13:00 PM

This is from a 19-year-old.

Dear Patrick and Jen,

It has been a while, and I do apologize for the delay in my writing. The hospitality you showed me by sharing your home was most appreciated. Likewise, your financial assistance in my shortcomings did not go unnoticed. I also doubt that I could have enjoyed Washington as I did without your help in showing and taking me around. Seattle underground showed me the literally deep history under Seattle, our dinner in town was an intimate look into the city’s nightlife, and your beer was excellent and enjoying it with food was excellent. Thank you again for giving me a contemporary look at Washington.

Love,

Yeah, you really shouldn't tell the world that you're supplying minors with alcohol. That's kind of something you keep to yourself...

Congratulate that young man on being awesome and then congratulate his parents on having a hand in such an awesome kid.

And yeah, the whole alcohol thing is a little iffy, but I think WSLCB has more important things to worry about.

You took an out-of-town guest on the Underground Seattle tour? They very nicely thanked you for it?

Must have been raining that day.

I couldn't help but read that in the voice of Martin, from The Simpsons.

if the kid's not driving, he should be able to have a fucking beer. or 6.

teens are drinking anyway - you did, i did, my kids did & continue to do so. treating them like adults is the way to get them to act like adults.

Oh c'mon people - first of all, the kid was 19 years old, not 11. There's nothing wrong with what Jen did... most of the Western World would consider that being a good host. Secondly, drinking with family or friends, responsibly and in moderation - in other words enjoying a beer or glass of wine or even a fine somethingabitharder - is good step to developing a healthy attitude toward drinking... which some of you prudes obvious didn't acquire.

I'm constantly amazed at the diverse readership of the Stranger and Slog. When you consider the subject matter and viewpoints that the Stranger presents, it's a bit strange how many teetotaling ninnys are around to make comments.

I make sense of it by telling myself that these folks feel like they're taking a walk on the wild side by sneaking a peek at how the other side thinks.

Any 19 year old thoughtful enough to send anyone a thank you note is a kid who's gonna be grateful for the efforts of their parents.

@14...no shit...equally bizarre are the folks whose sole purpose in life seems to be waiting around for ECB, Charles or Josh to throw up a post so they can instantly chime in on how stupid the post is.

Seriously...Americans are fucking hypocrites. I was super-pissed when I started seeing all these craptastic little editorials on Rosie O'Donnel (I think it was) admitting she has driven after drinking. Even though you know every single one of those assholes has as well.

That was an excellent letter, and considering the terrible English skills of the kids coming out of high school these days she/he seems really great.
