Politics And You Thought the Firing of the US Attorneys Was Flagrant…

onToday’s Washington Post article about the truly egregious political discrimination happening in the Justice Department’s civil rights division, of all places, is a must read. It’s nitty-gritty reporting, and it’s nasty as hell.
Be sure to read the second page, otherwise you’ll miss the transfer of a seven-months-pregnant minority lawyer named Karen Stevens to a lower profile division to “make room for some good Americans” in the civil rights division. Holy shit.

Today I saw a headline that an Amistad voyage was being recreated. I wonder, under this administration do we need to check to make sure it's not actually loaded with new slaves?
It is a truly ugly situation, isn’t it?
Why those attorneys haven’t sued the pants off the government is beyond me, though it looks like at least one of them received a large cash settlement.
It must be weird working for a “Justice” Department that’s as brazenly unethical and contemptuous of the rule of law as the people they’re supposed to be prosecuting.
If this is the Post's first article on this, I'm surprised - just FYI, this stuff has been covered in more detail (and for much longer) on thinkprogress.org and tpmmuckracker.com . You can find, among other things, video of Schlozmann's congressional testimony. The dude is a slimy, slimy dweeb.
And all of this is surprising - how?
This administration has made toeing their particular party-line a litmus-test for employment pretty much since Day One. The only difference is that now we have a somewhat less-than-compliant Congress finally installed, and so the more egregious practices are finally getting thrown up into the media spotlight, while at the same time the sheer volume of these abuses is actually starting to sink in with the more somnolent section of the public.
But, it's not exactly news, is it? At least not for anyone who's been paying even cursory attention the past five or six years.
Cheney claims that the Vice President's Office is not part of the Executive Branch therefor is not bound by Executive Orders.

Government employees lie, and government employees do stupid things.
And it isn't just Republicans that lie and do stupid things.
And it isn't just government employees in Washington DC who lie and who do stupid things.
ANYTIME one political party becomes entrenched - STATE or Federal - they start lying and doing stupid stuff.
Alberto Gonzales will be speaking next Wednesday at Seattle's Westin Hotel. The event is being sponsored by the Discovery Institute -- the Bill Gates sponsored "intelligent design" buffons.
The only reasonable option is to start drafting Neo-cons and sending them on two combat tours each of Iraq, while we bring everyone else home.
OMG,
Check this out:
"In the video... a faux special Fox News report features Bush, Blair, Condi---all your favorites singing along (Late Night with Conan O'Brien-style) to "Waterloo", which is filled with very prescient lines about "history repeating itself", "I feel like I win when I lose" (which really brilliantly sums up Dick Cheney) and "couldn't escape if I wanted to," which sums up how a lot us feel about the next year or so with Bush at the helm. Click on the video for more."
This is the funniest thing I've seen in forev and should be Slogged.

#6 Spoken like a Republican. This isn't about lying about getting a blow job in the Oval Office. This is about an Administration that constantly and consistently wiped their ass with the Constitution; a type of thinking that puts loyalty to one dumbass over loyalty to one's country.
Damn, COMTE, why do you alway have to say my thoughts better than I could?
Why aren't Patty and Maria screaming about this in Congress and to the press every single day? Do they even fucking care? Twenty years from now, if George and Dick haven't burned every last scrap of paper generated during their administration we're going to hear about shit that's going induce terminal vomiting.
So what happens on January 20, 2009 when George and Dick say "ya know what? I know there was an election and all, but we're not leaving. Whatcha gonna do about it?"
@12 - that's what the second amendment is all about.

If it comes down to that, I expect you'll be able to count on more than a token number of "gun-control libruls" being in the trenches feeding belts into the Brownings.
But, it won't come down to that. There are waaaay too many aspirants just on the GOP side standing in line to allow shrub & Co. to make that kind of play.
Well, some of us have extensive military service.
But let's hope you're right.
