OK, so the CBIL (Canadian Brother In Law) and I had a blast at the Mariners-Cubs game yesterday. For those of you still perusing the NYT Style Section, the Cubs won a well-played ballgame 3-2. The key: Ichiro’s failure. In the first inning, he singled, went to second on a passed ball, then third on a wild pitch. Yet the Cubs managed to strand him there—and keeping Ichiro from scoring when he’s on third with one out if damn near impossible. Had he scored, we might have seen another extra-innings debacle. Main downside of the game: impossibly loud, ignorant Notre Dame/Cubs fan three seats over, shouting out instructions to the players like they could hear him from the fucking upper deck. CBIL matched him with his “Raaaauuuuuuul” chants and eardrum-bruising whistles. Today’s game: we get your worst pitcher, so the Cubs batters will probably revert to form and the Mariners will get out of town with a series victory.
If 3-for-4 with a run scored is "failure", I hope Ichiro fails every day.
As for a "well-played ballgame", your Cubs would've lost if not for some sloppy fielding on the M's part. You got lucky. Now Jeff Weaver's gonna no-hit your asses!
CF - No time for the M's to falter. Weaver puts his first little feather into his cap if he can come out and help not only the starters (and his own fucking cause), but the taxed bullpen as well. A well-pitched game similar to Batista's yesterday hopefully isn't asking too much.
Both the Angels and the A's won yesterday. The M's need the win today to keep chins up and keep pace well around the quarter pole in this three-horse race in the West.
Is there such thing as a Notre Dame fan who is not loud and ignorant?

That's the problem. If Ichiro's having a bad night, it seems in even the slightest way, M's can't pull it together.
Still, long season to go, and we're only 4 down from 1st.
Was that loud guy the same one who yelled "get some new shoes, Jose" at our Jose Lopez? That was weird.
