one of the local news shows last night was reporting it as a one HUNDRED thousand dollar donation, which made this new development seem really disturbing. one thousand makes a lot more sense, phew!

Raft. Of. Fucking. Crap.

I hope he came clean with his wife, at least. And I hope if I ever try to pull some ridiculous shit like this, someone slaps me.

I saw that on Q13 news last night. They also mentioned something about his letter being accidentailly dated March instead of May, as a sort of hint at this being something he'd planned ahead of time. The wife didn't want to comment much and Michael didn't return the reporter's calls. Fishy, indeed!

I'd say the wife wants to see where he was cuz she's not buying his bullshit either. Maybe she thinks he was shacked up with a stripper for the weekend, or something.

I think the March/May thing was an accident, I don't believe he really wrote it in March.

Everyone knows he wasn't really in that ravine, his story doesn't add up. It doesn't sound like he's told his wife the truth though, she's asking for a guide to find where he collapsed? She wants to believe him, and it's a lot harder to call bullshit when it's someone you love feeding you a big lie.

I agree with both of Kristi's points.

The event thus far seems suspicious, but there is a slim chance he experienced an episode of "transient global amnesia," which does happen to people under mental and/or physical stress. The sufferer really doesn't remember what happened, and may ask the same questions repeatedly, with increasing anxiety.

Fuck these excuses. Stress, work, blah, blah, blah. It's very possible this dude had - at least what we used to call - a hard core freak out.

Anxiety is a generalization for a million different things these days, but it can be a REAL bitch. I've seen it happen. My good friend's father jumped their second floor living room window, like through the glass, doesn't remember a bit of it, or the week or so surrounding it. This stuff happens.

Sucks that searchers occasionally put there lives on the line when a missing person might not be missing in the way they think, but that's how it goes.

Now, if was of sound mind and body, and was aware people were looking for him but he chose not to pipe up - then this guy needs to hold a town meeting and be publicy humiliated.. I mean appologize.

Oh, I guess I was agreeing with #12, only with typos and curse words.

Yep, all the excuses sound pathetic... I especially feel bad for the wife... I agree with what #10 said-- she probably desperately wants to believe him, but is having a hard time doing so. It's no surprise that Search and Rescue is declining to lend her a guide. I imagine they have their own opinions on Michael Schreck, and they are probably glad they didn't waste any MORE money or resources on him. I bet they spent a hell of a lot more than a thousand bucks on helicopters and horses and dogs and people and everything else.
