Ever see "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" documentary? She's actually a very sweet and caring person and was the only evangelical Christian to reach out and support the gays at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic.

She's not all evil.

Watching her on The Surreal Life was an eye opener. She was no longer the freak-show harridan possessed by demons of craziness; she was a charming, caring, and very funny woman. Remember, public evangelicalism is a sickness, not evil. She's not got what's wrong with Bush, by any stretch. I'm sorry for her and wish her an amazing recovery.

I'll quit hating Bush when our country digs out of the mess he made.

I see your point about Tammy Faye, and feel much the same way. But Reagan? Still hate him, and his evil wife too.

It helped me feel a bit better to read today that Stephen Hawking took a ride in the "vomit commet" plane that simulates the 0 gravity of space and got to float and do somersaults. Aww, that's nice.

I always hated Reagan, and I still do, but I never had a problem with Jim and Tammy. Sure, they ripped a lot of stupid people off, but caveat emptor, as the lawyers say. Besides, I don't think they were ever hateful about their religion. They pretty much stayed out of the social issues as I recall.

Lung cancer is an awful way to go. That's what my dad died of.

i'm really sad...i don't think tammy faye was ever really a hater...she hated the 'sin' but didn't hate the sinner...any woman that into hair, makeup and clothes couldn't be much of a homo hater...you just know she's been surrounded by homos her entire life...granted, most of them were probably in the closet religious types, but still...once a fag hag, always a fag hag...

watching her on 'surreal life' was an eye opener...if she could bond with ron jeremy, she could bond with anyone....

I am still angry at Reagan for his not uttering the word AIDS until 5,000 were already dead, and for supporting the Contras in Nicaragua, and just about everything else he did when he was in office. W is a very, very bad president, but people seem to have forgotten how bad Reagan was.

Tammy Faye turned out to be a warm person with a big heart, in the end, despite her past. My anger with her is long gone. In fact, I have grown to like her and admire her. She will be missed.

some of you interested in the ongoing human side of tammy faye would find the recently aired sundance documentary series 'one punk under god' fairly enlightening. it follows the story of the bakkers son (jim) return to christianity and his current ministry which features a highly prominent call for evangelicals to abandon their homophobias. the doc doesn't pull punches and jim jr still pays a high price in advocating gays a seat at the evangelical table. and somewhat like the children of reagan it is fascinating to watch his divergence with the value system of his parents while maintaining a relationship with them, which i cannot imagine any son or daughter of a bush doing

My hatred for Nixon was never as great as my fear of Ronald Reagan. Reagan always gave me the impression he was daring the Russians to nuke us (this was also around the time of "The Day After").

But I can only hate one person at a time (though I can loathe many). I hate George W. and though I don't wish him dead, I wish he would be caught with child porn.

Bush getting caught with child porn is my happy thought for the day.

Remember, without Reagan, the election of Bush (either one, but W in particular) would have been impossible. The senile old fuck built the coalition that has spent the next 25+ years destroying America.

Tammy Faye was pretty much a victim of Jim in the old days, and once she got some distance from him her underlying humanity came out. It's sad to hear that she's dying, and I wish her well.

I only vaguely remember Nixon from when I was a kid. I do remember Regan much more, and while I didn't like him, I never had the constant visceral loathing that I have for GWB. I disagreed with Regan on a lot of things, but it seemed like more of an honest disagreement in world views. He didn't seem as utterly morally bankrupt and corrupt as GWB. Regan was merely wrong, whereas GWB is a deeper evil combined with a fiercely stubborn incompetence. Regan never seemed like he was actively trying to destroy the country (just the unions). Or maybe I'm just having selective memory.

In any case, right now at least, I don't think GWB will outlive my anger. Ever.

I am still angry at Reagan and ever shall be. Death notwithstanding, some of his policies & views still live to this day - and injure us all, as Cascadian @ 18 so ably pointed out. If you're feeling more charitable toward Ronnie as time softens your anger, try watching "And the Band Played On" again.

I have nothing against Tammy Faye at all; it's tough to die a slow & painful death, no one should be subjected to that. Watched too many relatives and friends go the same way. I would not wish it on any fellow human being.

But I read her pleas and wonder: shouldn't a true person of God be grateful that they are finally going to meet their maker? Just wondering.

IT's fascinating that a post about Tammy Fay's failing health led to a discussion about how evil Reagan was vs. GWB. I think that illustrates the difference right there. No matter what the subject these days, it all comes back to GWB. His imcompentance and villany is the ether we are all imersed in. I don't think Reagan quite reached that level of pervasize evil... but then i am white, Christian (reformed), straight male, so Ronny was always on my side.
