Damn! I was hoping the full-of-themselves UW would have to resort to someone like, say, John Curley.
Cool, Norm always gives great speeches.
@1 Heck even Cindy Rhinehart would have been a great speaker for them!
So glad I graduated with August Wilson as our commencement speaker. Norm Dicks may be a good speaker (dunno, I've never heard him) but he does not have the cachet of many of the other recent speakers. As long as it doesn't rain, I'm sure the grads won't care too much.
Great speaker or not... there aren't many people who could get me to go to the 4 hour ceremony.
I'm glad they chose Norm Dicks. An effective local leader who can really speak from experience.
Spending money on a fancy-pants speaker is a waste of time. Bill Bradley spoke at my graduation and I don't remember one single word he said.
With the dem sweep last election, Norm's now holding the House reins for enviro action nationwide, and he's already kicked in local mojo to push through the Puget Sound cleanup plan. Low celeb quotient or not, he's the UW alum most likely to shape the immediate future of this crop of grads. Plus he's nice and loud, no droning.
AT least they found somebody. I was almost ready to submit an application ;P
I was hoping for John McKay.
