Man, living in Canada, where literally everybody. i. know. has been to Cuba, the travel ban to me seems, more and more, the bizarrest shit i ever heard of, like some rule they'd have in the USSR.
Then again, the reason everybody I know has been there is cus it's the cheapest warm vacation you can get, thanks to the embargo. My friend that can hardly afford her $800/semester tuition called me up and said "I know I'm crazy. But my friends were filling out forms to go to Cuba, and God damn the deal was just a little too good." So i mean, at least there's some fucking advantages to screwing over an entire country.
Press conference is saying that the officer did die of his wounds, and that this is the first officer in the department's history to die in the line of duty.
You give us horse racing but no hockey? Ottawa Senators are going to the Stanley Cup for the first time in their history.
Michael Moore is surprised about this, my ass. I don't agree with the embargo, but even I know what the terms of travel are. I don't buy for a single second that they thought they could go to Cuba without legal trouble. The fines are astronomical, by the way, and the film is of course proof that they went there - it's not like they can say "no, nonsense, I never went to Cuba!"
The terms require that Americans can not spend any money there. They also can't pay someone to spend money on their behalf. That needs to be backed up by receipts for everything. It's not like the travel embargo is vague in any way. For ordinary citizens, it's just a question of attempting to not let anyone know you've gone, and maybe the Feds'll miss it. Filming going there for a documentary is a bit of a giveaway and with that in mind, I think the Cuban filming (with fiasco to follow) was likely carefully calculated by Moore to get this kind of federal reaction.
Good for Moore! That boycott is so fucking stupid. Hopefully, this will generate some non-retarded conversation about it.
Thanks much Sage! A quick google and I've been teeming with ideas. We're digging around our 6x12 alley plot in between the rain showers!
The Preakness was awesome. Curlin ran nothing less than magnificently, arriving perfectly on-stride in a tremendously close finish.
The Preakness.
I love that word.
Freakness.
Freakness is right. I had the pleasure(?) of attending the big Pimlico day back in high school. A bunch of us went down with an Irish friend of ours who was meeting up with his extended family. I hadn't been to a Dead show at that point, but that's what it was sort of like. We must have been in the infield for over 8 hours and I saw less than a minute of horse racing. Pot, alcohol, bbqs, lawn chairs, camper vehicles, guys w/o shirts, loose girls. We had a good time I suppose, mainly remember being very grimy by the end of the day. What I imagine NASCAR to be.
