I really think the GOP is overestimating Ronnie's popularity. While it's true that a lot of people showed up for his funeral, I think that most of it was out of curiousity or wanting to be part of history - plus the normal contingent of ghouls that just love ANY sort of funeral.

I think he'll end up as some sort of Eisenhower character in the public's mind - not bad, but not spectacular. And he'll have that rep mostly because he just stuck around for so long, and didn't do much after he got out of office.

Of course, educated people will recognize him for what he was: A souless bastard that put a kindly face on naked greed.

"Attorney General Gonzales was invited to attend the fifth-year anniversary of Wales'[s] death last year, but instead sent Michael Battle -- the man who would fire McKay two months later."

Niiiiice.

nice, cat

an enterprising corporation should exhume Reagan and run him in the republican campaign. "Zombie Reagan" could just have a tape recorder installed in his rotting flesh (playing old movie lines and stupid shit he said on tv) and he would blow away all the candidates.

ps wtf is up with drudge's 1996-themed website??

When I was an angry conservative in the closet, all I would read for headlines was drudge.

Now I'm an angry liberal out of the closet, and I can't seem to shake drudge off.

I think it has something to do with his 1996-themed website. I like it.

@3 -

After winning the election by a landslide, "Zombie Reagan" would go on to serve two more terms since the dead are not subject to presidential term limits, enchanting the nation and inspiring the world with 8 years' worth of hilarious Weekend at Bernie's II-style marionette politics.

That craven asshole, John Mc Cain, is shooting his mouth off again:

“Gay troops pose ‘an intolerable risk’ to national security, U.S. senator and Republican presidential hopeful John McCain wrote last month to a gay rights group seeking to change his position on "don't ask, don't tell."

"Most importantly, the national security of the United States, not to mention the lives of our men and women in uniform, are put at grave risk by policies detrimental to the good order and discipline which so distinguish America's armed services."

Uh huh, aren’t these the same failed policies that have destroyed our standing in the international community and run the armed forces into the ground? Whatevs.

If you truly want to support the troops, especially scorching hot former US Marines who are now Colt models, then for frak’s sake please click here (100% NSFW):

The Republican debate: 90 minutes of posthumously sucking Ronald Regan's cock, with nary a mention of Shrub. Regan's name was even splattered all over the backdrop (it was Regan's library, don't you know), as a constant visual reminder of the patron saint of Republican populism before it all went to shit. Popular themes: doing away with Roe v. Wade, firing teh gays, and denouncing evolution. Oh, and more war, better managed war.

It was sort of fun watching the "centrist" Republicans almost snapping their necks in their violent turn to the right.

So which part of Reagan’s legacy are the Republicans most proud of?

1) Union busting.

2) Race baiting.

3) Totally ignoring the AIDS crisis until it had killed or infected hundreds of thousands of people.

4) Expanding both the government and the national debt.

5) Selling arms to our sworn enemies the Iranians to fund Central American death squads.

6) Introducing ever nastier partisan politics which poisoned political discourse.

7) Holding up anti-intellectual attitudes as a virtue.

8) Bashing women and children who depend on welfare and food stamps, aka society’s most vulnerable citizens.

9) Installing right-wing religious ideology in place of science and policy in the government.

Is it all of the above?

Something is seriously wrong with these people; they’re simply unable to feel empathy or compassion and relate to others as human beings.

Personally, I find the fact that Ronnie had Alzheimer's disease during his terms in office to be much more illuminating.
