Last week, Pittsburgh was called the Most Livable City In America by Places Rated Almanac, and was rated the city with the second worst air pollution in the country.

Another thing that makes Pittsburgh less livable is the fact that two local bars have forced the delay of a county-wide smoking ban in restaurant and bars.

Grr. It went into effect for a whole twelve hours yesterday and the county did not die.

I really wish our county would join the late 20th century and ban smoking in restaurants and bars. At least a non-smoking bar opened near my home.

Everyone smokes in Chicago. It's weird. The midwest in general seems to have a lot of smokers.

Pittsburgh's smoking ban is weak and unfair as it excludes a number of smaller bars. It creates a situation that will divert customers to the smoking bars genuinely harming the business of the others.

The whole thing should be scrapped and rewritten to apply to everyone. Either you allow smoking or you don't.

I live in Chicago. Had it come to a vote I never would have voted for a ban, but now that it has started(for many places)I love it. I am glad that the rest of Illinois will be smoke free too, but shhh...don't tell!

Disney just announced that all the Disney-owned hotels at Walt Disney World will be 100% non-smoking, including balconies. This has seriously pissed off my partner.

Actually, PA Native, as much as I've almost always been a fascist non-smoker (except for those three weeks when I was 13 and smoked), I think there ought to be some smoking bars. I think 10% of all liquor licenses are allocated to smoking bars. An extra licensing fee paid by smoking establishments would go to help pay for smoking related illnesses. Most bars and all restaurants should be non-smoking.
