um. ok. so, what does any of this have to do with Iraq?
I have many problems with Shrum. #1 is that he hasn't won a national election but still gets work on them.
But he's spot on in his criticism of Edwards. I was disgusted when Edwards said during the first debate that his biggest mistake was voting for the Iraq War, and that his lesson learned was that he should trust his own judgment. I couldn't believe that his vote for the war was not out of conviction, but was political maneuvering. That is disgusting. If you can't grow a spine and vote out of principle on something as important as war, you have no business looking for my vote or anyone else's. Is that what anyone wants in a president or any leader? I hope not.
Hey, EVERY fucking democrat up there voted to support the iraq resolution, almost assuredly for political reasons, except for like two guys. As long as we have a two-party oligarchy, American politics is about picking the lesser of two evils. And just reading their faces and listening to their words, Shrum's account comes off bullshit. He's saying Kerry was the straight shooter (unlike Edwards), when every sentence Kerry spoke was agonizingly strained to fit into what his handlers told him to say. Edwards may be just as false, but at least he's good enough of a liar to make me feel like he has a heart somewhere in his chest, and I'll vote for his ass in the primaries (if I even bother with them) and definitely for the presidency - if he gets that far. He's quite possibly the least of the evils we've got to choose from this year, at minimum he's the least evil of the electable ones.
