Cindy quitting really did not make my week any better. First the Dems cave to Bush on Iraq, Rosie leaves the view (even though I am not fan of her, it kinda sucks) and now Cindy quits. Fox News is naturally going to spin this as huge vicoties for the facist right of Amerika.

But I am going to try to visit with Maria Cantwell at lunch today to express my disgust with her support of the Iraq occupation. She sent me a form e-mail last week after I sent her three e-mails begging her not to vote for it then asking why she voted for it.

At times I really hate my country....

Well, I always LOVE my country. Especially after paying tribute to our fallen on Memorial day.
And poor little Cindy can go down and commiserate with her buddy Hugo Chavez. Misery loves company.

"...a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives."

Raindrop, you are SUCH a tool. Cindy Sheehan is honest, and she's right.

I sympathize with cindy (in my role as a shop foreman for a local union)... its hard to fight for the rights of people who don't give a shit about them. few people will stand up for what they believe in. they all want "someone else" to do it. well, guess what... you only have the freedoms and rights you fight for. I am glad that i am still a Canadian citizen (born there, moved here at 3 yrs old)... I never really even thought about moving back until they started to take away my habeas corpus (a right in common law since 1215!!!) and my right to peacefully assemble (free speech zones my fucking ass!!). now i have a back-up plan for when bush starts shit with Iran...

Did you hear General Pace on Friday? He said that the terrorists have a 100 year plan for what they want to do. Is it just me or did he just tell us that we are going to be in Iraq for 100 years? And why is no one asking about the permament bases they are building in Iraq nor the embassy in Iraq that the contractors are building that is larger than the Vatican?

I was somewhat dismayed to hear that Cindy Sheehan is giving up, although I can totally understand her frustration.

I really don't understand the lack of active opposition. Bush's poll numbers have stagnated at around 30% or less for well over a year. Polls also indicate about the same numbers support this stupid war. And yet there is no strong dominant voice that people opposed to the war rally around. There are no serious massive protests. The Democrats have more-or-less caved. Bush, as always, ignores any voice of dissent or opposition.

I wonder just have far we have to go before a tipping point is reached? Why, with 70% of the population opposed to this war, have we not already reached that tipping point? WTF will it take to get us ou?

Who gives a crap about Cindy Sheehan. I had respect for her up until her little "I'm-gonna-take-my-ball-and-go-home" crybaby temper tantrum. She complains that people think she is an "attention whore" but then creates such a scene like some sort of upset, disgruntled prom queen.

Goodbye, Cindy. The large resistance to this war - even without the Dems in Congress - will continue just as strong without you.

Draft.

Start the draft now.

18-40 year olds are needed to fight this 100 year war against an enemy that is impossible to locate to obtain a victory that is impossible to quantify.

How many male and female Cindy Sheehans will appear if the draft is enacted? Lazy, entitled and arrogant Americans. Ripe for a downfall....

I think the only thing we can do short of leaving the country in mass protest before Bush attacks Iran (God help us all if that actually happens) is to not let up on our two senators who voted for the funding bill and find new candidates to run against Patty Murray in 2010 and someone to run against Maria Cantwell in 2012. They have to know this is game over for them. But then I also have to admit our attention span is about 30 seconds so we will no doubt forget about this in a few more days.

The American Idol crack Cindy made was really classic and sadly true. Can you imagine how much more successful Hitler would have been with iPods and reality TV? (Scares the crap out of me when you think about it)

The Democrats only have 50 votes in the Senate (Lieberman would split) and the President would veto anything that would actually end the war, so it's not like there's anything they could actually they could do to end the war as long as Bush is in the Whitehouse.

2008 is the election that can end the war, not 2006.

I was actually impressed by her "farewell" letter, and had never been that taken with her in general. It became clear to me that she's not interested in being partisan and is not showboating, and she is just as frustrated with the anti-war movement as a lot of others are. I don't understand how people could throw so much vitriol at her; she's a grieving mother who has stood for what she believed and tried to honor her son.

Congress holds the purse strings for war, not the President. The Congress could have and should have sent the same bill up to White House that Bush previously vetoed. Ultimately, the Congress can simply NOT issue legistlation to fund the war which is how we ended up getting out of Vietnam. Congress cut off the money.

And the 50 vote thing is disturbing. Only 14 Senators voted against the funding bill. There are a lot of Democrats who really screwed up on this so to put the blame only on the Republicans at this point is frankly not being totally honest to the facts.

And keep in mind both Obama and Hillary waited until the last minute last week to vote against the funding of the Iraq Occupation. That alone should give anyone some pause about the viability either of those two will get us out of Iraq. We are in a much bigger hole than most of us realize and it will take real political wit and strong convictions to get us out of it. What the Democrats demonstrated last week is an unwillingness to take on a president with less than 30% approval ratings and do all that is possible to end a war that 70% of Americans wanted out of long ago.

Again WRITE AND CALL Sen. Murray and Cantwell!!!! Ride their asses on this issue!!!

Am I the only liberal who's glad that Sheehan is "leaving"? I think we need a better person than someone who seems more qualified to make unproductive nuisances than productive TV appearances at the front of the antiwar movement outside of Washington.

@ #15

How about you? Why don't you organize the anit-war movement?

I am tired of people saying that they want leadership but are not willing to look in the mirror and take on that very role themselves. Here is a news flash, stop whining and bitching and actually get off your asses and DO something!

LULAC and National Council of la Raza should be ashamed for their endorsement of Gonzalez. I said it then, I'll say it now.

They knew his record, they knew he was Bush's personal hand puppet and now theyre crying they didnt know he was going to be sooo bad. They knew quite well what we were getting with Gonzalez. Im surprised Gonzalez has not come out crying racism, eventhough, he could care less about Latinos/Hispanics in this country. To hell with them!

I was actually impressed with her resignation, she had become a public figure, it is appropriate for her to make a statement, I don't see it as showboating or whatever. Shje made some good points, and it's nice to see someone taking the opposition to task for its faults too, instead of blindly worshipping anything that isn't totally Reichwing.

Have fun protesting, been there, done that, tired of being assaulted and arrested for attempting to excercise my rights to assemble and air our grievances. Besides, I just don't foresee USAians coming out to protest in any numbers for ANY reason.

Remember your tax dollars pay for roads to be for cars 24/7, 366 days a year, the only other use they can be put to is a corporate sponsored parade.

You know what we ave in this country now?

Fascism, plain and simple.

Are you applying for the position, CHZA?

I can imagine nothing more frustrating and annoying than trying to motive a nation of self centered, over weight, listless drones.

She didn't seek the role. Her kid was killed and it make her take action. Where exactly is the best place to make an anti-war appearance? What is the best way to conduct and inspire resistance? IF you have the answers to these questions, please share them. We need to know how to change this shit.

Far too many people that question this war are content to rely upon a political party to get us out of it. They don't realize how important it is to politicians to continue the war. They ignore that possibility because it makes them question their knowledge of history and the "glory" of American legend.

The anti-war / democrats / sheep / entitled / among us are just as hateful as the right wing hawks that push their will on the world.

"Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will."

Here's one for elsie, the texas ranger-

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18909383/

'It tells us more about the media than about the bank,' he says
NO, IT TELLS US ABOUT THE VALUELESS PIG WOLFOWITZ, WHO WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY WHEN THE U.S. STAYS IN IRAQ FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS.

'By tradition, the United States — the bank's biggest financial contributor — names an American to run the institution.' GREAT, ANOTHER WARMONGER.

elsie, you once gave the idictment (BEFORE HIS FUCKUP GOT EXPOSED AND BEFORE HIS NAME APPEARED IN SLOG HEADLINES), that "yes, Wolfowitz has blood on his hands." you're a tough talker alright, because the only blood Wolf has on his hands, is the blood from his whore's menstruating pussy.

Anyone who expects the Democratic party to radically deviate from a basically center-to-right-wing agenda need to stop freebasing for a little while.

Every loyal Democrat crying over Bush who tried to bully myself and other people with progressive leanings to vote for Democratic candidates who at best were extremely tenative about policies that I really cared about(Sustainable environmental policy, a SANE foreign policy, addressing human rights/immigration issues, civil rights, abortion rights, et al) needs to remember that these cunts just want to keep their jobs, like everyone else. Ralph Nader was kind of egocentric and unrealistic, and probably a bit of a prick but he sadly tends to be correct about the people he bashes. When someone like Kucinich is labelled a "Lunatic" and laughed at by his own party, rather than "left wing," tell me that the Right hasn't won in this country no matter which party is in power?

Any senator(this means you, John Kerry, Maria Cantwell, Hilary Clinton) who voted for Bush's mad scheme in the first place and then cried "foul" that they were "tricked" by "faulty intelligence" needs to stop insulting mine. Fuck you guys, you thought you'd have an easy ride in Iraq no matter what the facts were.

Fuck you all. The whores in Congress, the whores in the Senate(much like the whores in the press) basically gave Cheney n' the gang the keys to the car and rolled over for a scam that makes the Gulf of Tonkin look credible. Anyone who was honestly fooled by the WMD scam was a fucking simpleton and a retard. Guess what? Not many fucking simpletons and retards graduate from the schools these people have, with the degrees they have. They just didn't care about the facts.

No offense to all you Dem lovers and so called pragmatists, centrits, middle of the "roadies" but your party is composed of a bunch of bed wetters.

Yes theyre better than Bush, but hell, who isnt?

Time to build a progressive party and no I dont mean the Greens.
