Ask her if she even likes the Decemberists.
Go for the kill: "Why are you so awesome?"
ask her why she looks like a cute harry potter.
Ask her if she knows how to play cribbage.

I've done lots of these on-stage interviews, sometimes with authors I barely knew.
One good strategy: ask them what they're reading/seeing/listening to. Talking about their tastes can lead to interesting stuff about their work, though it's your job to lead back to that.
Never ask where they get their ideas.
"ask them what they're reading/seeing/listening to"
ask them to describe it
without names, titles, religions, political parties, labels in general
most of these are abstract nouns and tell us nothing

Ask her if she prefers to play cribbage or to dance to klezmer music. I personally am torn between the two.
And then ask her what she wishes she had done when she was 12. Or, if she can't recall, when she was 21.
