Pride Parade Meeting

posted by on May 4 at 8:45 AM

Last night Sally Clark told me that I could attend this morning’s meeting at City Hall with SOaP and the LGBT Community Center (or the LGBT Community Discord Generator, as it’s being called in this comment thread), which she and Tom Rasmussen set up. Last night at midnight an email arrived asking me not to attend this… open… public… meeting…. pretty please?

I’ll have a full report from Clark as soon as the meeting wraps up.

Who asked you not to attend?

Good call on Clark's part. No one will be able to compromise (namely the LGBT center), knowing that a reporter is going to be publishing their every word... I am really glad that Rasmussen and Clark decided to sit these groups down to get some results.

Good call? Was the Seattle Gay News at the meeting?

If Bakan was there, this is very unfair. Hmmm, more drama.

But Dan - if you were to be honest about what happened in that meeting, what would that do to THE COMMUNITY? After all, THE COMMUNITY only works when a few COMMUNITY activists make all the decisions.

THE COMMUNITY can't be trusted to say where the want the parade, and THE COMMUNITY surely shouldn't be consulted about any COMMUNITY festival.

And yes, what about the COMMUNITY mouthpiece, that Pravda of the LGBT COMMUNITY (only with no proofreaders) the Seattle Gay News? We need their unique take on reality in this important COMMUNITY issue.

You know what a meeting like this really needs? A partisan reporter in attendance who will broadcast a bitchy one-sided account of the meeting that seeks to embarass the other side in front of the whole city.

Rise above, Dan.

Just reread your post, and it implies that you didn't attend. If so, thank you for rising above.

I didn't attend -- and I'm still waiting for Clark's call. Honestly, I was a little relieved when they asked me not to attend. Some folks wanted me to be there because they were sure the SGN would be there, and they wanted some balance.

But, man, some meetings I'm happy to miss. Spend the morning in a conference room with George Bacon? I'd rather rub pepper in my eyes.

Pepper? Psh.

Go all out and slash your eyeballs. After both eyeballs are sliced, pour gasoline straight into them.

Then set your face on fire and run around blind in the streets.

Catalina, remind me to buy you a drink (or a sandwich or something) some day.

Yum, pepper.

Seems like the SGN was there. T

They posted on their blog the terms of a join agreement between the two groups.

They also have a picture of the two sides smiling.

Check it out:

I was not at the meeting, and had no plan to be there. Who started rumors to Dan, who knows.

I was advocating to Tom and Sally and Shannon that such a meeting could be helpful to decrease anxiety and spell out just what each group is planning.

From reports to SGN, it was a productive and positive meeting.

That reporting was done by SGN after, outside the meeting.....

That would make my blood boil—you have every right to be there with a video camera, record all of it and put it on TV if you want to! Of course, they'll probably strike a back-room deal on the telephone beforehand...
