This is as important as the revelations about firing US attorney's because they refused to improperly attempt to affect the 2006 elections by baselessly indicting Democrats shortly before the election.

Here, a former acting Attorney General

That is: The President conspired to commit fraud with Alberto Gonzalez and Andrew Card.

Then, when the DoJ's approval of the program could not be obtained, the President himself reauthorized the illegal program.

That is: The President knowingly and willfully broke the law and authorized a program of illegal domestic surveillance. Each act of unlawful domestic surveillance is a felony.

These are impeachable, criminal offenses.

That should read: Here, an acting Attorney General, James Comey, has testified that the President ordered his chief of staff, Andrew Card, and his White House counsel, Alberto Gonzalez, to attempt to obtain the signature of Attorney General Ashcroft from his bed in the intensive care unit of a Washington hospital for a program of illegal domestic spying and wiretapping. The Card and Gonzalez knew that the DOJ had already concluded that the program was illegal and Comey had refused to authorize it.

John Ashcroft is ... my ... hero?
(Here the commenter's head explodes due to the impossibility of what he just wrote.)

Yeah. You know it's *bad* when it puts "Eagle Soars" Ashcroft on the side of the angels.

The sickest thing about this is that they’re all going to get away with it. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Feith, Gonzales - every one of them is the worst of the worst and they’ll never have to pay for their crimes.

Instead, they can look forward to endless speaking gigs, seven figure book deals, and jobs in the liberal academia that they profess to hate where they’ll train the next generation of sociopaths who’ll be a thousand times worse.

And now that the Dems have taken impeachment off the table, there’s not a damn thing that anyone can legally do about it.

How’d ya like them apples?

It definitely says something when (covering the boobs of Justice) (author of the "Patriot" Act) Ashcroft comes off as the good guy.

I can't believe how filmic this sounds.

What I find really striking/frightening is the image of Comey, the two justice dept officials, and Mrs. Ashcroft surrounding Ashcroft to protect him from Gonzales and Card.

And Clinton was impeached for lying about a blowjob. Good call, America.

Ladies and gentlemen and everyone in between, we have a new LOW for this administration (and only because we now KNOW about this one)...
