What or who did he attempt to kidnap? The article linked is short on details.

From http://www.spokesmanreview.com/tools/story_pf.asp?ID=187396

The altercation began with a report of a possible kidnapping and assault at the Shari's Restaurant at Indiana and Monroe Street, said Spokane police Officer Jennifer DeRuwe.

DeRuwe said one female employee was restrained, another tried to help and then a male customer reportedly stepped in, and Lewis allegedly assaulted him. A Shari's employee called police.

After the police stopped the car:
DeRuwe said officers reported that Lewis was confrontational when they approached him, refusing to get out of the Corvette.

"He had already shown his total disregard for public safety," said DeRuwe of the police decision to Taser the man.

Witnesses said they heard Lewis talking about Jesus.

"He was yelling, 'I'm God. You can't do anything to me,' " said Maurice Frye, who witnessed the confrontation from a nearby business. "He would not let go of the steering wheel."

Lewis was taken to the hospital to be examined for injuries and undergo a mental health evaluation before he was booked into jail.

Oh, and about that Corvette:
The 2005 Corvette was borrowed from Camp Chevrolet over the weekend on a kind of extended test drive with the intent to purchase it.

ummm...I'm not sure if this says something about Christians or the wonderful inhabitants of Spokie. I spent four years in that wonderful little town full of nut-jobs and meth heads and this honestly isn't all that out of character for some of the locals...There are some good folks but I think there's also a pretty high proportion of crazies for a city that size as well...and that bit of town can get interesting at times, not as much fun as E. Sprague, but fun nonetheless...

It is really sad that people are taking this incident and judging not only Christians but Spokanites as well. You only know what the media wants you to know which includes nothing about the individual as a person, a husband, a pastor, a mentor and a friend. The actions we have seen from him are completely out of character and he deserves to be seen by a professional. There are many respectable, highly intelligent people here in Spokane and it's really sad to see just how quickly people begin to judge not only one person but a whole group of individuals. The most important thing right now is for people to quit judging and show some compassion for a sick man. I am sure if it were someone you knew or someone in your family you would show a lot more forgiveness because the truth of the matter is we all have our dirty little secrets!

And exactly what about this individual "a person, a husband, a pastor, a mentor, and a friend" justifies reckless endangerment and assault? This man could have KILLED those cops. He could have KILLED pedestrians. Exactly what is going to mitigate that?

I've been depressed. I've wanted to kill myself. I did not do it. I did not try to kill anyone else. It's called self-control, friend of the family, and most grown ups have it. It's even supposed to be one of the fruits of the Spirit. Perhaps your friend should grow some.

First of all JenK my comments were in response to "md" who stated that Spokanites were a bunch of "nut-jobs and meth heads." I made these statements about Pastor Lewis' character b/c I do care about Pastor Lewis as a person. I know there is no justifying his actions and that is not what I was attempting to do in my statement. Mostly I am trying to get the point across that there is more to offer in Spokane than nutsos and meth addicts.
By the way, Kudos to you for keeping your sanity!
