New Kids on the Block

Hello Moe! A week from today, on May 30th, brand spankin’ new Moe Bar is having a Grand Opening Bash. It’s hard to believe that this re-invented space used to be the Bad Ju Ju Lounge. The new space is frickin gorgeous… Says Jason Lajuenesse, a co-owner of Neumoís and Moe Bar, ďWe wanted to evoke the music history of this space and all the good times we had here as Moeís a decade ago, and connect that with all thatís happening in Seattleís amazing music scene right now.Ē True that. The poster art, from Moe shows past, is enough to make any Seattleite nostalgic…

Big congrats to Jason, these happy guys, and everyone else who busted their ass to make Moe Bar a reality.

Then, as everyone probably knows, The Cha Cha Lounge and Bimbo’s Bitchin Burrito Kitchen is moving on up on the Hill, to the former Des Amis spot at 1013 E Pike. Doors pop open there on June 14th.

Bimbo’s will be upstairs, and the Cha Cha Lounge will be tucked away downstairs. The decor is already starting to look crazy and awesome in the true tradition of superstar owners Jeff Ofelt and Wade Weigel…

It was also announced, official yesterday, that the old Cha Cha space at 506 E Pine, will remain OPEN until it’s demolition. A little bird told me the space will be transformed into something best described as a “den of queer punk debauchery”. What?! WHO DARE try to make a bar that’s both queer AND punk? Stay tuned…

I find it odd that you Strangers find such glee in renewal after all the belly-aching and bitching when Cha Cha was "wrongfully" forced out of that dump it used to call home. See, development has its silver linings, bitches.

And when we write about films, books, plays, sex toys, and politicians? Is that free advertising too, David?

Moe was never really the Bad Juju Lounge. It was a nice idea, but just moving the sign over from 11th wasn't ever enough.

Itís good that Bimboís and the Cha Cha have found some place to move to. Iíve enjoyed all of the Strangerís bellyaching about how Capital Hill needs more density and then equal bellyaching about how that aforementioned density is sapping the spirit out of the neighborhoods that itís moving into. Such fun.
I wish only the best for Bimboís and the Cha Cha in their new location. I hope that the wait-staff in Bimboís improves after the atrocious display I witnessed on one occasion where a customer was pursued out of the restaurant and yelled at by one of the sub-par wait staff that the tip left was not sufficient for the crappy service that the diner received. I never went back after that.
And Dan, donít cast stones. You and your crew of half-witted, reactionary staff (Hi, ECB, rumor has it that you were an actual, thinking human being before being hired by the Stranger along with the other newbie transplants that make up the staff) are some of the biggest hypocrites in Seattle. Face the facts.

Looks pretty cool. Almost makes me wish I still lived on the hill. Almost.

Um, ďden of queer punk debaucheryĒ I only need to walk two doors down to the far better Bus Stop for that. Where are they going? That's all I care about.
