Chick is pretty accurate about their beliefs. You don't get to hear a lot of the "crazy" beliefs until you're a very high degree. My brother was Mormon in middle and high school, and was planning on becoming a missionary when he graduated. They have just recently started to tone down the racist stuff, but I still think if you're a non-white you can't enter the sanctum in Salt Lake City. We're half-Mexican, so when my brother started hearing more of the "crazy" beliefs, and when his Elders tried to get him to convert his Jewish girlfriend, he woke up and left the church. But I think the whole idea Sodom was full of gays is the result of a mistranslation. As I understand it, it all hinges on the sentence "Bring them out so we may have sex with them," where "have sex" is actually a translation of the verb "to know" (bring them out so we may know them). What I read is that "to know" is only translated to sex for something like 2% of the times its used in original texts. Hmmm... so is the story original? Or the result of a homophobic translation?

And boy, it got me every time as a kid when the part about using girls as property to be raped was ignored as some kind of freakish demonstration of hospitality. Especially when you consider the marriage age then was probably around 12...
