Big box sucks, but so does Burien. They should make more affordable housing in the south-end. Maybe they can be moved to Auburn?

On a related note, who says "Westside" for seattle? I heard that today. I think that sucks.

Transit Man -- Maybe the Eastsiders are biting back?

In Burien, aren't there already commercial strips along 1st Ave South that could handle the big box redev and therefore not displace the housing? The two 'malls' on either side of the Burien Transit Center look like they could disappear without anyone noticing. I mean, it doesn't seem all that sold out to me down there to have to knock the existing housing's dick in the dirt.

For another perspective, see this story in the Highline Times, a local paper covering Burien.

There are some quotes about the length of time this has been planned.

Over the past 30 years, thousands of housing units, both apartments and residences, have been removed from the area. Some was directly for airport land, other for commercial development because of proximity to the airport.

Big box affordable housing: stacks of refrigerator cartons. That's called mixed-use development!

Excellent work on this story, Josh. Events are moving quickly on the Lora Lake issue, and it may be that the 162 units will stay put. We have called in some "big guns" to weigh in. Please stay on top of this one.
