Keeping Up With Cannes

posted by on May 21 at 13:05 PM

While I’ve been busting ass to get The Stranger’s annual SIFF Notes pullout together (don’t you just love working twenty hours over a single weekend?), my attention has more than occasionally wandered to the the Cannes coverage currently pouring out of southern France.

Hou Hsiao-Hsien's The Flight of the Red Balloon

The best stuff is at The New York Times (no blog this year, sadly, but there are some OK podcasts) and The Guardian’s film blog.

Too bad they glommed all the films again.

I wonder if Michael Moore's Sicko will be part of the SIFF secret festival.

Is there a statute of limitations for keeping the Secret Festival films a secret? I went to two series back in the 1990's and all I remember is a movie starring KD Lang. I wonder if anything really memorable or famous films played.

Well, not as good as another cool one I saw back with our scrivener. Cool Argentian film.

But, hey, how come no mention of the WaPo blog at WP Scene - they have some Cannes News ... plus pics
