Not me. I learned my lesson with SM1 and SM2.

Transformers, however...

Sorry. But that skinny-jeans theory is irresistible.

I am no Spiderman fan, but your "Unanimous" headline is simply bullshit. As someone in the comments at Radar noted, Radar cherry-picked reviews; the film is actually liked by a majority of critics surveyed by RottenTomatoes.

Thanks for the tip, DrewVSea; I was getting a little worried. A more important barometer would be how people who liked the first 2 movies feel about this one.

Here's the Rotten Tomatoes link (SM3 scores a 65): http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/spiderman_3/

It'll still make money and generate sequels, which is all that Warner Bros. cares about.

I hear that it's also the most expensive movie of all time ($300 million production and $200 million in marketing) finally knocking Elizabeth Taylor's Cleopatra off its inflation adjusted throne.

I still can't understand why anyone liked the second one. The first one certainly had its entirely-the-fault-of-fucking-Sam-Raimi problems, but the second? Yeesh.

Still seeing it with my son for his birthday. Woo Hoo!

Rotten Tomatoes is really scraping the bottom of the barrel for good S3 reviews. They seem like mostly hacks with a few industry rags thrown in for good measure.

Metacritic gives it a score of 60, which is about on par with Rotten Tomatoes. Positive reviews from the likes of New York Daily News, Newsweek, Hollywood Reporter, New York Post, Boston Globe, USA Today, and Rolling Stone.

You want to look at the RT "Cream of the Crop" rating - currently at 48%. Ouch.

4, 5, and 10 beat me to it. So much for unanimity. And I don't care about Spiderman 3 and don't intend to see it.

@4 + @9

If a movie is below 70% at Rottentomatoes, I think most people realize it ain't gonna be that great. Watchable, but not great, and most certainly not 500 million dollars satisfy the whims of the fanboys great. The great thing about loyal fans, though, if you're a film studio, is that they'll go see your shitty movie thrice because they can't help themselves. I know from experience.

For everyone's reference, other movies scoring in the 60th percentile at Rottentomatoes.com include such gems as:

Miss Potter
Ali
Apocolypto
Jackass #2
K-19: the Widowmaker (this is a movie?)
Keeping the Faith
The Last Samurai
Legally Blonde
Out of Time
Reign Over Me
Red Dragon
Star Wars: Episode II
The Terminal
Unbreakable
Unleashed

An example of a movie that scored in, say, the 80th percentile at Rottentomatoes.com is:

Batman Begins

or

X2: X-Men United

So, Spiderman 3 will be no Batman Begins, but will probably be at least as good as The Last Samurai. With Tom Cruise. Remember how mind-bogglingly RAD that was?

@2, he reposted a Radar post which quoted from the village voice. There's an extra two layers between the VV and your eyes; should be fine.

sanitationstation: I've decided to pretend Dreamy David Schmader™ is the essential source, and content myself with that.

4 the Bois: you read my mind. I'll be bringing extra underwear to the midnight screening.

Jackie,

K-19 was actually a fairly gripping suspense story based on an actual event. But, then, I'm a sucker for a good submarine flick.

Its all the fault of Ain't it Cool, isn't it? Is anybody going to remember all these crappy CGI fanboy flicks 10 years from now? or are we going to be stuck with the Brett Ratners* of the future creating an even more diminished form of this schlock? to be watched on our mini cell phone/ipod hybrids?

*not that he makes them all, he's just the most shameless hack of all, extolling the crappiest Simpson/Bruckheimers of the 80s as masterpieces.

@ 13, that's not bad for the third movie in a series (See Robocop 3, Terminator 3 - or better yet, don't.)

I've never understood the whole Spiderman craze. For some reason you hear about upcoming Spiderman movies like it's the second coming or something. People act like it's something new and exciting as opposed to a 100 year old cartoon character (Yes, I know it isn't that old)re-made into new movies. I watched the first two long after they were released on video and I'll probably do the same with this one. Note: I did enjoy them...but never watched them again.

I just hope they do Venom justice as spideys more modern updated villian.
Venom comic covers are baddass. How do you duplicate that?
