Slog - Comments on It's Time For Somebody Somewhere To Do A Story on Sally Clark

She's such a fascinating figure I just wish someone would get on that as long-windedly and pointlessly as possible. Anyone in the media out there want to step up?...

I believe, @4, this is a facecious post regarding the Weekly's blog post from May 2 saying, and I quote:

" It's time for somebody somewhere to do a story on Sally Clark. It doesn't have to be a long story. Something you just threw together at the last minute would be fine. Ideally with a photo. She's such a fascinating figure I just wish someone would get on that as quickly and superficially as possible. Anyone in the media out there want to step up?"

when the Stranger had just done a story on Sally that week in the May 3 paper.

Both stories, Weekly and Stranger were silly slop.

Sally is great, and will still be Sally after 4 terms on the Council and she is running for mayor or congress.

New political leaders do not use an axe for action in their first term/months. No where, no city, bad idea. They learn, bide their time, get connected and pick several issues.

So far she has simply played it exactly right.

And quoting all the experts on Seattle politics who are paid consultants is stupid. Paid guns perform for their paying clients, not much else.

Sally's photo in the Weekly is great - and - amazingly they manage to not mention she is a lesbian, although as all know - she is totally cool about the whole matter, as out as out can be.
She used to write and edit for the Lesbian Resource Center Newspaper and the Seattle Gay News, pretty out there.

Go Sally, go Sally to Congress.

I think is interesting that her former boss Diers is lukewarm on her. I get the feeling he held back.

And finally, Podlodowski has a lot of nerve asking Clark to lead the five. Maybe she should have ended the quote, "My challenge to her is to lead the five, cuz I damn sure didnt."

So yeah, anything that would boost her name recognition among 20 to 40 year olds who give fewer than two shits about the minor players in the junior high school play that is local Seattle politics would probably be good for all concerned. IMHO.

Installment #11846 in the long, boring pissing match between Erica's two employers in this town. I think she is just jealous because The Stranger rarely prints anything longer than 300 words on city issues.

It was interesting to read Jim Diers and Tina Podlowdowski's quotes on Sally. Tina didn't exactly light up the council during her stay there. And Jim Diers should run for council himself instead of taking potshots from the sidelines at those with the courage to run. His neighborhood pandering style is part of the reason certain neighborhoods in Seattle have far too much power.

Sally fucking rocks! Maybe she doesn't throw rocks and bombs at other people (like some - hello Ms. Velazquez - why such a little snitty snit in that article?)but she's wicked smart, very funny and affable, and she actually listens, finds out the facts and makes a decision. People from foaming at the mouth activists to stodgy well healed business types all say the same things (fair minded, smart, a pleasure to work with) because it's true. Even when she votes against you, you feel like you had a fair shake and that she understood your perspective but amicably agreed to disagree. What's so wrong about that? Sally will make her mark in a big way. Don't doubt it. She is patient but her opportunities to make a bigger splash will happen soon enough.

@17,

"The Stranger rarely prints anything longer than 300 words on city issues."

Are you high?

We print at least 500 words on city hall issues every week in ECB's column.

And the whole news section is about citywide issues.

Erica also wrote an 1,000 word story on Clark a couple of weeks ago... and she's also done a 1000-worder on the Steinbrueck's open seat and on and on...like her 3000 plus on the Viaduct.

Just funning, Josh. But thanks for the 79 word defense of your city coverage. I still don't care about The Stranger's obsession with proving they are so much better than the other papers in town at covering stories.

Comment by Jensen Interceptor

I have found Ms.Clark's positions to sometimes be shallow and rather poorly studied. Her stance on the the viaduct issue being one. Frankly, I would not vote for her, and I agree, in principal, with Gomez's comment at #15. She was selected for the seat because she absolutely posed no threat to the council members and their agenda. In my opinion, she resembles the current council in that she represents everybody but nobody. Look for more of the same until the body politic decides enough is enough.

well, well, Jensen, #24

I am a lesbian business woman, and I can sure as hell tell you Sally Clark represents me.

Of course to such hoity toity males as yourself, that representation has no merit. Oh, what, keeping women on the council, that little strike at sexism. And, as all admit, Sally is very bright.

These expectations of a women in politics in her first year or so is consistent with sexism - she MUST out achieve all males - make her mark in months, please every sector of the body politic, and just DO IT ALL, very well of course.

Sally is a pip, a winner in one election, second coming up and the competition in the first round. As she catches her stride she will continue to win - sorry whiners.

I hope some big time male bad ass/civic leader/attorney files against her, and she tromps him. Of course in that event the mantra of the whiners would be the voters are stupid and blah blah blah.

Love Sally, sending a check, tomorrow.

Comment by Sally Fan Club Member

I am sorry to say this but City Government is not always sexy. In Seattle, it can be especially boring because on most issues we agree. The local elected’s fall over themselves to be more progressive, greener, more gay positive, etc. etc. When you go to other places you do actually realize how lucky we are here.

The Council does need to set the public policy agenda a little more clearly. Please tell me how any of the other Councilmembers who have been in their jobs for years have set a vision or made a mark? Peter is the closest to actually having a vision unfortunately he acts like a petulant child throwing a tantrum most of the time. A guy like Nick Licata is just not going to do that. His philosophy as President of the Council is to be a leader by not leading anything and promoting individual councilmembers in doing what they want to do (very 60’s live and let live philosophy of leadership). Sometimes it bugs me but basically our city is going in the right direction.

I don't doubt Sally's ability to rise to the top and actually bring a fresh GEN X perspective to the Council. Right now she is the only non baby boomer on the Council who did not take their page from the various 60/70’s movements.

I have a lot of faith in her. Go Sally!
