Russian students talked nonchalantly about banishing those found to be gay—"blue boys," they called them—from family and society. "It's better to be dead," one 20-something drama student told me, like she was relating a fact about the weather.

Clearly, nothing's changed, and here's hoping more international figureheads follow London Mayor Ken Livingstone's lead in condemning this barbaric bullshit.
