eh...old news...if you've seen her show from the beginning it was a bit obvious. besides look what happened when she was all "gayed" out on her sitcom. now she's HUGE. lesson learned...

I have no doubt that de-gaying the show is partly by the insistence of the producers. But part of it is also just moving on with life.

I remember when I first came out. Like many gay people, I really came out. Being gay was all I could talk about to anyone any time. I was just so excited, relieved at being out of the closet, happy with myself for the first time in a decade. Lots of gay people go a little overboard when they first come out. It's natural, I think, even for gay celebrities.

But after a few years, you get some perspective. I talk about it if it comes up naturally in conversation, and I make no attempt to hide it. But I don't announce my gayness at every opportunity any more. I don't interject gayness into every conversation.

Completely de-gaying Ellen's show is a bit ridiculous. But toning it down was probably a good idea, and a natural evolution over time. Both Ellen and Rosie went way overboard when they first came out (not that I blame them; I did too).

Same thing goes for Anderson Cooper. CNN, as liberal as they may be, refuse to let him disclose his sexual orientation. He opted to help the situation by taking the topic into his own hands by stating he does not wish to do anything that would separate him from his viewers.

If somebody stops watching your show/whatever because you're gay, then you probably wouldn't have wanted him or her to keep watching in the first place. They're scum. Besides, getting paid is the next best thing to getting laid. He's now up 4 Million.

Most of the time, it's not relevant. I frankly could care less what a talk-show host does to get the naughty bits tingling. Everyone knows she's gay, the people that were going to have apoplexy over it have duly done so, and the rest of us are proceeding with no more particular focus on her sex life than on other irrelevant aspects of her private life.

Someday, maybe we'll get to the place where we react the same to hearing someone is gay that we do to hearing that they have green eyes. "Oh, really? Cool. What's on Animal Planet?"

She talks gay stuff with her guests now and then. She had the talk with T.R. Knight after the whole Isiah Washington Faggotgate thing. I seem to remember bringing it up with other guests where it was relivant. She just doesn't relate everything she does back to her own sexuality and why should she (see #3 and #5 comments).

PS by the way, she and Portia make a cute couple. Portia is way cooler than Anne "freakshow" Hesche.

I don't think anyone could accuse Ellen of not being gay enough and judging from her comedy career, it would be out of character for her to shout about being gay all the time anyway.

If you listen to her comedy records throughout the '90s, her humor is more in the Jerry Seinfeld vein then say, the Bill Mahar or Dennis Leary style (read: political humor). She does airplane humor, jokes about public bathrooms, the works...

And yes, Portia is stunning.

I saw her interview with Eddie Izzard, and the topic came up in the course of the conversation, just in a natural sort of way. I'm with SDA on this one, I think she's just calmed down... and her producers would like to keep it that way. =)

Could not agree more. He did not take it away. I'm convinced Mr. Savage took it away because the ass-kickery was too much to handle. That, or maybe it just wasn't "professional" enough. Adrian is the #1 reason I started picking up The Stranger every Thursday. I still turn to the last page every time to see if it's back. Those comics are constantly waiting to suck. Now that it is gone, I am lost in SLOG, desperately waiting to see when he will make a post...that has nothing to do with American Idol. Today he came through. W00t!

Actually just yesterday Ellen told the audience a story about how she missed Portia's birthday, and a few days ago after using the word straight, she said "Well I am not that straight as you all know"

JHC the way Ellen dresses absolutely leaves no reason whatsoever for her to speak about her sexuality! Like it's not obvious she was one of those gals that loved softball and basketball in high school just a little too much!
