The link for raising the legal age for porn (A modest proposal) leads to a story about CBS censoring comments in postings to stories about Barack Obama.

Should the bones be removed from the canned salmon or are the soft enough from an additional cooking in the
soup to be consumable? They should be
a good source of calcium.

Yep, now $60 to fill my "compact" car's fuel tank. Makes public transport look mind boggling cheap... if we only had real transit.

I'd like to read the porn story too. If enacted into law, would it make possessing porn featuring 18-20 year olds against the law? That would make every copy of Playboy up to the present child porn.

It's already difficult enough to crack down on real child pornographers.

Most of the "teen" porn models are in their thirties anyways, right?

I've been saying for years that microwave popcorn is poison. If someone makes it at my work, I leave the premises immediately to avoid the instantaneous migraine headache that ensues.

Dave, what kind of compact car has a 20-gallon tank? Most are 11 gallons these days.

Erica, did you actually try out this recipe? It says, "Add the diced potato and most of the salmon." Nothing is mentioned about what to do with the REST of the salmon. Hmmmmm....

Great idea with the modest proposal. Have porn join alcohol as a vice that will be used furtively and illegally from junior high through college. After all, porn, like alcohol, clearly leads to reckless driving. Or something.

Kevin -- I think the recipe assumes that you'll eat a bit of the salmon while you're prepping the other ingredients : )

Caroline @ 2 -- Canned salmon bones are soft enough to chew up. Texture freaks will , however, want to remove them, which isn't that hard to do.

So you can go to war but not have anything to beat off to afterwards?

I predict a rise in post-traumatic stress syndrome.

Erica, microwave the potatoes to al dente and the prep time easily drops to 8 minutes.

2- It's easy enough to pick out the salmon bones before adding to the saute.

If an 18-year-old is of sufficient intellectual capacity to make a decision on who should be elected president, then he/she is old enough to make a decision about appearing in porn. Geez, how long are we going to try to extend legal childhood, anyway?

Sorry about the porn link - it's fixed now.

As for the recipe: Caroline @2: I would take out the bones. It doesn't cook long enough to dissolve them. Kevin @ 8: Yes, I did. You add the rest near the end of cooking.

(Porn) What about soldiers? Especially if they re-open the draft? You can be forced to die but denied release?

Thanks for fixing the link Erica.

I don't know who I despise more, the Producer of Girls Gone Wild, the brainless twits that appear in the videos, or Ms. Franke-Ruta. We've already told those under 21 that their brain chemistry does not make them mature enough for alcohol. If this is true, then those under 21 should not have the right to vote, because they'll vote for the shiniest object. Neither should they be allowed to smoke, drive a car, or serve in the military. And their parents should continue to be 100% financially responsible for them.

Doesn't the NYT article state that California moved their primary to be earliER, not earliEST? California has joined a number of states having Feb 5th primaries, and will not be the earliest.

The further infantilization of American teens. As noted about, we'll allow them to sign up and risk their lives in the military, as police officers, as fire fighters, but woe be it on us for allowing them to consent to pornography contracts. I mean, it's not as if they are taking out a loan, signing a lease, taking full time employment as migrant laborers. Porn (specifically, Girls Gone Wild) is so much worse that we have to consider special laws for it.

It's frickin' ridiculous. And I don't like the fact that we have drinking laws for 21 year olds, like Ms. Frank-Ruta seems to approve of. They should be allowed to drink legally at 18.

Noted that Ms. Frank-Ruta seems only to care about the "girls" in her article with nary a mention of the "boys" and their ability to consent to such contracts that they might have to live with for the rest of their lives. She's either a shrewd manipulator or sexist for not bringing that up, or both.

My favorite part was where she said that if they would just wait until they were 21, they'd be "nursing a Chardonnay" instead of running naked all over the beach. Because, you know, she did. Doesn't every girl turn into a Republican Miss on their 21st birthday?

I think they're are plenty of girls drinking Chardonay during Spring Break, except it's out of a box with a hose attached.

The soup looks good. I know serving sizes have gotten out of hand in this country, and I know that a lot of us eat too much, but is that soup being served in a thimble???

re: subprime story:

did you catch this one today?

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003696532_loan07.html

apparently a couple that brought in $25/hour (combined) and has $20K of credit card debt is having a hard time making their payments on their subprime mortgage. I am wildly unsympathetic, especially when you get to the part about what they spent the money on and her quitting her job for the promise of big bucks in commissioned work.
