I was feeling so depressed today bc of my shitty new hairstyle and the USSC decison about gender discrimination and pay inequity.

This has made me feel so much better. However, it is not quite justice. If she wasn't the daughter of the biggest conservative, racist, homophobic, classist, sexist person on the Court she may have gotten her kids taken away.

While I agree that she should've gotten punished more harshly...why the heck is it illegal to fail to secure a child younger than eight in a child-restraint system? How many 7 year olds do you know who will consent to sitting in a car seat?

A child restraint system is the generic term they use for whatever is appropriate for your aged kid- either 5 point car seat backwards for infants, forwards for babies, and boosters until 40ish pounds or seatbelts until adulthood. So- all of them.

Uh, kids don't consent to all kinds of stuff -- vaccination shots, sitting in car seats, wearing bike helmets. That's what parents are there for.

If I was Antonin Scalia's daughter I would probably be a drunk too. If his fathering is anything like his public persona, he must be a nightmare. You just can't be too suprised about this incident.

Go figure... Those republican bible-beating drunk drivers in Wheaton finally get their come-uppance. Bet she was also talking on her cell phone and listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio.

Wonder if she was buddies with County Prosecutor Jane Radostits...

"WHEATON, Ill. -- A county prosecutor had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit, was driving at nearly twice the posted speed and apparently was talking on her cell phone moments before she was fatally injured in a head-on crash, according to a 33-page report issued by the DuPage County Sheriff's Department.

The report released Friday also indicated that Assistant State's Attorney Jane Radostits, 46, of Homer Glen, was apparently not wearing her seat belt when her county-issued car collided with an oncoming SUV near Winfield on May 11. The mid-afternoon crash seriously injured the SUV driver and damaged two other vehicles, police said." [ChicagoTribune.com]

The icing:

* "A week after the crash, DuPage County State's Attorney Joseph Birkett revealed that Radostits' blood alcohol content was .25 percent, or three times the legal level of intoxication. The new report confirmed that finding, and said she was driving at 81 to 85 mph in a 45 mph zone at the time of the crash."

* "'This is about as egregious as it gets,' Stefanowicz said. 'My client was injured due to the arrogance of the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

'It's appalling that office, which has been quoted in the past as stating that driving intoxicated is an intentional act and never just a mistake, could be so brazen.' "
