Chris, it is time for you to get to a big city. I know that sounds lame, but I had to do it when I was your age.(for my own sanity) I chose the Bay area, but that was a rather expensive choice. I hear that Atlanta and Dallas are quite gay and cheaper than San Francisco, so go there. You will be better off there than where you are now.

I came across Chris Crocker years ago when he was posting pictures in the Art Fag community where some little quite busted an artery because Chris takes pictures with himself as model. The boy's beautiful and creative -- why not? Soon after that, I found him on MySpace and have had some coversations with him and I think he is one bright shining star. I adore him and I would kick a hater's ASS if they ever pulled shit on him around me!

I am from a small town -- Bennettsville, SC. I knew Chris was the real deal from day one. I have always known gay Southern white boys like Chris. While us gay Southern B/black boys learn how to kick ass and defend ourselves even if we are going to femme out, gay Southern white boys have to cross over, so to speak. Usually very accepted by B/black girls because they catch shit from all over and their whiteness will not protect them. A guy named Rod Dureyea comes to mind. I wanted to kiss him so badly and he couldn't even see me... race mattering as it always does.

hey chris. i live in mississippi and i know how hard it can be for someone who is openly gay with no shame. one of my best friends from high school was teased on a regualar basis, just like you. the only difference is that he was a big guy and nobody would get violent with him. however, the name calling, laughing, and staring was all the same. i was really his only friend. i was a popular girl in high school and when i became good friends with him, people tried to tease me too. haha! it didn't work. The article was well written. But after viewing a couple videos, I think you could have done more to probe the issue of race hovering around Chris Crocker performances. The sense that at least one video initially sounds like "just another gay white boy trying to "talk black"" is worth explaining better. He's in the South, creating videos like "ghetto queen", saying stuff like "I speak this ghetto shit as a second language." Is that some kind of put down for people who speak it as a first language?

I didn't have time recently because of the "Cram session" i had trying to get my work done (which is still not nearly close to being finished!)

and i've been more than a chris crocker "fan" or "groupie" i've been a chris crocker admirer for a while, and have been posting all his vids on my personal myspace bulletins, comments ect.

and i didn't get a chance to read the atricle as soon as these kids above did, but even though it's a late comment, and i'm sure you've heard this many times before chris, you're amazing, enough said.

See me, i'm from London and its great how i can just access anything USA, Japan i can get it from anywhere. The internet has made things accesable to everyone... i am just a recent myspace fan who had added chris to my friends list. even on my myspace, it clearly states,

"everyone on my friends list is my real friend"

being i have never even met chris crocker (would love to) i felt i needed to still add him considering everything he talks about, is worth listening to and learning from.

he does it in a way where he can grab your attention, far from having to sit in a high school classroom and being almost forced to pay attention.
where even the most popular myspace goers (jeffrey star, forbidden and tila tequila) i refuse to add. chris crocker is not in it for the "attention" hes just trying to make a statement. while the other three, just want fame.

i understand there are many enemies again his "gay act" as well as fans who are for him, so why deny him?

This is an excellent article. By far, Myspace and YouTube over any other websites have brought out the people in all their glories -and not so good sides too.

I would like to comment that, as an "average" Myspace user, the extent of his popularity/haters crew, seems superficial to the "average" person that doesn't use such sites as a means of expression or communication. To the other side of the world, its all sh*ts and giggles, nothing more than distracting humor to be attained.

But powers that be which come from the OCD-everyday user brings such sites to height of popularity that forever change society's way of functioning. I sometimes wonder where would I be if MySpace didn't connect me with person A? What choices would I have made if I didn't watch that one video on YouTube that can't be found on television? The almost instantaneous celebrity status that comes with exploitations on these sites is changing the way people "click" on a first-impression moment. I cannot be judged by my photographs, perhaps not even by my journal entries. But if the person wishes to be judged by their actions like this, then it shall be so. And Chris will have his time in this fame, people will keep calling him by whatever name of hate they can find, and people will keep cheering him on, and more than likely, the doors of opportunity are going to swing open a little wider for him.

I just finished reading your article and I am filled with so much emotion.

I stumbled on Chris' videos on Youtube about 4 months ago. Like many, I assumed him to be a "weirdo". A "flamer" with a lot of time on his hands.

I write this with tears streaming down my cheeks. I had no idea. Sure, I assumed him complex. My brother is 22 and gay. Not the same as Chris, not so femme. I had no idea where Chris' complexity came from until this article.

People, including myself, can be small-minded idiots. I'm sorry I judged you when I had no right to judge you at all.
