Child in Chief

posted by on May 7 at 11:39 AM

President Bush tripped over his words today in an appearance with Queen Elizabeth o England, saying that the queen had helped the United States “celebrate its bicentennial in 17 … .” He quickly corrected himself, saying “1976,” adding that the queen “gave me a look that only a mother could give a child.”

Or that an adult woman could give a complete idiot who’s just made a fucking fool of himself with a female world leader… again.

I guess that's the only upside of Royal not getting elected: she doesn't have to worry about getting molested in public by Bush and Co.

It's not surprising that he tripped on his words. The Uber-CIA has already gained enough info on LSD trips from inmates and soldiers in the 50's-60's. Now they just blotter with the POTUS for fun while conducting the essential business.

I'm still in denial. He can't possibly be our President.

*sigh*

Hehe. I'll have to give that move a try down in Belltown this weekend.

God, it feels like "Groundhog Day" sometimes. Is this administration ever going to just fucking end already? How many days left now?

tsm, there are 623 days, 11-ish hours left. Unless we impeach him first.

Is acting like a dumb ass in front of the queen an impeachable offense? Please?

If we manage to screw up and elect a republican in 2008 (god help us all) I think we should try to repatriate ourselves back to England. At that point we will have proven we never should have been allowed to govern ourselves.

Can we impeach already?

Is it just me, or does Bush have a hateful look on his face in that video frame of the neck squeeze?

Implying that a British monarch is a "world leader" is like calling Paris Hilton an "actress."

Angela Merkel is a female world leader. Queen Elizabeth is some kind of celebrity socialite or something. In other words, it matters if you offend the Chancellor of Germany, but who gives a shit if you make the Queen of England cringe?

@9
He kinda looks spaced out to me.

@10
The English people would care. She may not be an influential political leader, but she is still an important part of the British identity.

@11
Lots of people think Paris Hilton is an important part of the American identity, but I would beg to differ.

Enigma: You realize that, at this juncture in history, "world power" is just one of the many things Britain used to be, right? World power, center of industry, seat of an empire, etc. Used to be all those things. Isn't anymore.

Let Bush's unending follies be a lesson to all of us that lots of cocaine and insane amounts of cash will ruin an otherwise pitiful mind.

I never said she was a "world power", I said she had an important part of British identity. The monarchy may be fading, but it is still apart of the British system of government. If Bush insulted her in some way, it would be like insulting the British people.
We don't have a corallary in the States because we threw off that kind of identity during the revolution.

You know, it's not all that bad. Bush saying "gave me a look that only a mother could give a child" is semi-humerous and not in bad taste. It also plays off of Mother country (Britain) child country (USA).

It's nowhere near the embarrasing spectacle of what he did to the Angela Merkel.

It probably helps that Bush and the Queen are related, family ties make it easier for aristocracy to "[give] a look that only a mother could give a child"

@14:
Wrong, George W Bush's shortcomings are the result of extremely bad luck in the genetic lottery. He was born stupid and incompetent.
