I agree. Faint heart ne'er won naught when fighting evil itself.

Thanks Jimmy, Thanks A LOT!! Maybe if you would have stood up to that other right wing wacko (R Reagan)in 1980 like you did Bush you would have won the damn election. And then just maybe we would not have the current idiot in the White House.

But that aside. CARTER ROCKS!!!!

I'd argue that Jimmy Carter's the best ex-president out there.

Jimmy's the nicest, most earnest, most respect-worthy ex-president out there, but he was a crappy President.
Fiscally, overseas, not a lot better than what followed.

Bring back Bill.

Christopher Hitchens has a different take:

Hitchens opines on the "The latest absurdities to emerge from Jimmy Carter's big, smug mouth."

Hitchens thinks Carter is smug, overly opinionated, and wrong about foreign policy. No, really.

Yes--Carter loses a few helicopters and some soldiers in his rescue mission (and then works for months with diplomacy to free the hostages SAFELY)--and it tars the rest of his legacy as a "failed foreign policy."

Bush ruins US credibility worldwide, kills thousands of soldiers, maims dozens of thousands more, kills and maims hundreds of thousands of civilians, ruins the military and the National Guard...

verdict?

In the weeks after 9/11, practically every country in the world would have bent over backwards to help us. We had the world's respect and sympathy. In 5 years, Bush has managed to completely reverse that, to the point where we have almost no credibility of any kind left on the world stage. Bush's approval rating is at 28%, and has been hovering at that point for a year or more.

And he calls Carter "increasingly irrelevant"? Has he looked in a mirror lately?

Wait a minute. Carter also said that Nixon's foreign policy wasn't all that bad. Huh?

keshmeshi @ 11,

Nixon opened full diplomacy with the Chinese, which was quite an accomplishment at the time. He was still an evil SOB (see Vietnam, Cambodia, et al.), but whatevs.

Still, it's beneath the dignity of any former president to trash any current president in such a blunt and rude maner. Period.

What planet is Dan Savage living on. I was there when Carter's administration drove interest rates from 4 to 21%. I was there when we waited in line, using the alphabet, to decide who would get to the gas pump first. I was there when we botched the resuce attempt and lost men trying to rescue our hostages after more than 400 days. I beg your pardon....Carter was by far the worst modern president my generation has witnessed. What's in your pipe Savage?

Yep...Crazy Unkie Jimmy is the best damn Jew hatin', Israel bashing lying swine Arab money can buy.

And I say that as no great supporter of the present occupant of the White House.

What he's trying to do now is obsecure his own sordid failure by taking advantage of America haters ( both the foreign and self hating American variety) by dumping on the current administration.

That's despicable, but it's a free country, and every so often this sordid little geek is going to get out o the attic and soil himself in public.
