It’s really a perfect idea, if you think about it. We’ll add a whole land dispute-apartheid-occupation dimension that’s somewhat lacking in the current conflict as well as cover for the oil companies to keep US troops there forever (or at least until the US is bankrupt).

Besides, Republicans will love it in Iraq. It’s ugly and hot as hell just like Texas and Florida where their right-wing brains got fried, there are no environmental or gun control laws and you can shoot whoever you want! If it dragged on a bit, Bush would be assured reelection in 2004, since Americans don't unseat a wartime president. If I could see that way back when Bush started beating his chest in late 2002, I'm sure it wasn't lost on Cheney and Rove either.
