Or maybe I'm just noticing the obvious -- that books are a more "powerful" medium than blogs.

Sullivan's a perfect example of where the blogger and the author really complement each other. The book Sullivan adds some heft to the blog Sullivan, and the blog Sullivan shines some spotlight on the book Sullivan.
