Alert the Bunny Brigades!

posted by on May 14 at 9:00 AM

While here in Seattle, at the behest of furious bunny huggers, we’re capturing the bunnies overwhelming Woodland Park Zoo and gently transporting them at great expense, Australians are preparing to gun down much cuter, much bigger, much hoppier mammals.

Authorities said Monday they want to shoot more than 3,000 kangaroos on the fringes of Australia’s capital, noting the animals were growing in population and eating through the grassy habitats of endangered species.

The Defense Department wants to hire professional shooters to cull the kangaroos at two of its properties on the outskirts of Canberra, which counts 1,100 kangaroos per square mile - the densest population ever measured in the region.

Maybe we can buy Peter Cottontail a plane ticket to Sydney?

Round them up and let them free in Woodland Park. That would be cool.

Yes, by all means, let's send more rabbits to Australia. That'd be hilarious.

I think Woddland Park would be great if it it was nothing but rabbits, squirrels, kangaroos, and jackalopes.

The bunnies aren't hurting anyone, they are destructive, but that is their habitat, right? Same with Kangaroos. But what about those freaky right wingers who don't believe in birth control. I mean, doesn't a family that has 17 children take up quite a bit of habitat as well? Can we thin their herd also?

I would much rather deal with a bunny or a kangaroo than a home-schooled evangelical.

I've started seeing lots of bunnies at Discovery Park. SO CUTE!!!

Where do the Woodland Park bunnies get taken?

One good thing - the roos can be eaten - and should be.

These park bunnies get a lot of bad diseases - do not eat.

I may have missed something, but I have not seen ANY bunnies in thier usual habitat at Woodland Park (on the east side of the Aurora overpass).

I was thinking (and hoping) that the City Parks department wised up this year and did their roundup and eradication work in the dark of night, without a PETA-inciting press release this time.

Did a couple of the little fuckers escape the hunt so that they're back in force again?

I drive by there every day, and the bunnies do appear to be gone.

And no, Steffany, that's not their habitat. They are not wild animals, they are the progeny of abandoned pets. They should be killed.

So should the roos. Large marsupials are thriving, at the expense of lots and lots of little tiny marsupials, who are seriously endangered (not only by this).

French ex-porn star Brigitte Bardot has done a very good work against seals hunting in Canada, even though it's hardly an endangered species. In fact, its population went out of control after the Canadian government bowed to the huge pressure it was receiving from European governments. Canada took the restrictions back when seals' population boom became threatening, so Bardot managed to have a few European governments ban imports from Canadian seals products.
So, Europeans aren't that environment-wise, after all!

did the seal population not spiral because natural controls, i.e. predator species, are in decline?

we create the problem, we create the cure, we create the cure for the cure.

Who said anything about Europeans?

I say we kill 20% of humans because we are overpopulating the planet and using up its resources.

Yeah, no more rabbits please in Australia. We're really having just about enough problems, thanks, what with the drought, the global warming, the insane cyclones, etc.

I'm all in favor of shooting more 'roos, though. It's good for the population, good for the environment, and really good on my plate! Kangaroo meat has almost no fat because they're not farmed and they just bounce around all the time. Yum.
