Take 2 for I Dot the Eye

posted by on May 30 at 16:10 PM

SIFF’s one-time-only shorts program about “foundational musings” or some such mumbledygook was uneven (as only the best shorts programs can be) but I am happy to report that two of the best entries can be seen elsewhere.

Rob Perri’s I’m Keith Hernandez, a satirical mash note about the titular baseball player and his druggy, porny, mustachey exploits, will be getting another screening at the Seattle True Independent Festival on Thursday at 6:15 pm at the Rendezvous. Highly recommended.

And Marie Losier’s The Ontological Cowboy, about Richard Foreman, the founder of the Ontological-Hysteric Theater in New York, can be streamed on her website.

The Ontological Cowboy

I love the part about the babies. Also, this is a kind of conflict of interest, because occasional Stranger film freelancer Brian Frye appears to have done the cinematography.

I saw Richard Foreman's latest play when I was in New York last month. Foreman was there, working the controls as always. The play, called "Wake up Mr. Sleepyhead" was jaw-droppingly weird and gorgeous, glamorous, violent, and extraordinarily thought-provoking. Foreman, who has to be pushing 70, remains the most creative, brilliant, exciting and vibrant mind in American theater. I can't think of anyone else who even comes close. Can't someone out there bring him back to Seattle for just one more production before his time is up?

Yeah, I thought Bill Gates could've been tightened up some. But those shots of burning Centralia were great, no?

Thanks for the note Annie. Hope you show up for tonight's Reduce, Reuse, Recycle at 7pm at Northwest Film Forum. There's some great work in that program as well. My favorite in the bunch is Sunbeam Hunter.

And if anyone's curious, you can check out selections from Dear Bill Gates.
